numerical display of peaks?!

I cannot find a way to know how many dbs i am actually peaking at.

Everyone says something like "track at -12dbs with peaks no higher than -6dbs" or something like that, but how do you know how many dbs your peaks are?
can turn on an option so taht theres a numerical display rather than a bar display?

You're worrying a bit too much about this...

But underneath the channel's fader there should be a box displaying "Vol x.x dB"

Control (Win) or Cmd (mac) click this box until it says peak.
