Its called Number 11.
If you think the mix has problems tell me why.
This is my band, and i like to rock to the song so much that its hard for me to get a perpective sometimes on what the mix might or might not need.

Well,

I suck at mixing still, but I think I have a pretty good ear, so here goes.

Overall, it's really not bad. The guitars sound pretty darn good. I am guessing you are the guitar player? It's funny how ones own instrument gets mixed on the heavier side when they mix stuff...lol.

My only thing I can really say on the downside is the drums seem to be flat, quiet, and kinda lifeless. You have a "pantera-ish" sound, and thats one thing I've always liked about them - killer drums. In fact, Cowboys and Vulgar both are mixed (in my opinion) really well. Guitars, bass, and drums pretty even, and all real punchy.

Thats it.

Please feel free to crituque my critique...I'm just trying to learn.

LOL -

Pantera got me thinking - who did thier mixing? ...Vinnie! No wonder they have killer drums!!! Like I said, we all tend to mix ourselves kinda heavy....LOL

awsome mix and the solo was great i assume u used cabs for the guitars
how did u record the drums the fit really well but mabe a bit of verb will tie it up
peace

The guitars are di.
The bass was just a 57 in front of a 4X10 cab.
Now the drums...?
Im totaly lovin that drum sound.
Theres virtually no eq and no reverb. Its just dry and compressed!
It just booms and hits hard with the dynamics of the song.
For this band... im lovin that!
Ive tried doing the eq and reverb polish thing with this bands drums before and it wasnt RAW enough. Its not always a good idea to polish IMO.

How did i record the drums?
Mics>>>

Kick>audix d6
Snare>audix d2, blue baby bottle
Toms>Sennheiser MD 421's
Overheads>Blue dragonflys.

Mic Placement>>>

Kick>took the front head off, and put the d6 about 5 inches from the beaters contact area. Just slightly off axis.
Snare>D2 was clipped on to the snare, and facing the middle of the drum.
The baby bottle was ineffective. Too much phase. I didnt use it.
Toms> Just put them up from the tom heads about 3 inches and facing the center of the heads.
Overheads>I used a XY pattern directly centered over the snare.

Pre amps>

I just used the allen and heath for getting levels, no pre eq, no pre compression. Then the signal traveled to some focusrite preamps, then to the hard drive at 24bit and 48 was the sample rate.

Guitars>

The guitars are a plug called amplitube. i then sent them through a universal audio 2-610 to fatten and warm them up.
Then a little compression.

Heh..
For all the work i do on this project.
It means alot that you say that man.
Thank you.
:)

Seriously, I would buy this. Let me know if you get a CD put together.

I hear great guitar playing indeed; I also detect some great drumming buried in there somewhere that's supposed to compliment it.

that bad huh "buried"?

Damnit!!

OK ok ill do a remix.

this metal perfection shit is tiresome.

But its worth it

Just for the record (well I made a mental note for future reference regarding my own mix perceptions), we both commented on Aware's song recently, and again, I thought the guitars were great, but rather overwhelmed everything else, whereas you thought it sounded pretty balanced overall. At least we're both consistent in our views, which is a good thing!

yeah robin i went and tried to remix the drums louder....\

I wasnt feelin it.
The guitars got too buried at times.
And i dont like to compress that much.

So i a/b the two and i like my first mix best.
The drums do rock on this song, but the guitars are all the song has.
the bass really only doubles the guitar.
So i feel like this is the best way to mix this particular band.
It would be intersesting to hear your interpretation of it.

You wanna try mixing it for fun?

I would like very much to have a crack at it! My set up is centered around an Alesis HD24 and Soundcraft 6000 desk, and I've yet to use the Ethernet feature on the Alesis to load files, so I'd need to look into that first. Will let you know if it's feasible...

Cheers for now.

This rock song is Beaver-Tastic!

Me and my pet beavers are all headbanging furiously to this vicious metal.
