Nuendo users... (hey Emeric!)

This message is mainly for Emeric or anyone else using Nuendo... How is the latency on your system? I have the Nuendo installed, and it seems like it takes about 1 second or more for a sound to register on a meter and play back, which is bad, and that irritates me to no end, and Cubase is the same way. My Cakewalk9 right out of the box responds instantly, so there must be a workaround, though I cant find the answer I want in the manual. This looks like killer software otherwise, gonna take me awhile to get it all figured out.
Do the ASIO drivers really speed things up any? I have an Aardvark card on the way with ASIO drivers, hopfully this will cure some latency. But even my keyboard seems slow. Pressing the spacebar to start or stop play results in about a 1 second delay before it actually starts and stops(scrubbing drags too) Again, irritating to me. Maybe you can help me out.
Also, does the latent signal buffer and line right up where it belongs, or is there a sync problem if I monitor live input straight from the card along with already recorded tracks?
Any secrets anyone can share would be much appreciated!!!

Hey tubedude,

I have no problems with latency. Down around 60mS but I can get it much lower with some tweaking, just doesn't bother me at 60mS.

I don't know what soundcard your using, but ASIO makes all the difference in the world, and I'm not surprised Cubase behaves similiar.

With your Aardvark card you can expect latency of <68mS. I was using an Aardvark 20/20+ and this is what I was getting, now using a Delta 1010. Aardvark makes great cards.

As for monitoring live input, no problem do this often. I plug a vocal mic into an art tube pre directly to an input on the sound card, and then route that input to another output of the soundcard, back to the mixer for monitoring. No latency problems.

Good luck, ASIO and a good soundcard will solve your problems.

Measuring latency?

What method are you using to measure your system latency?
And, how quick are your meters to respond to, say, a snare hit?

Good point. There doesn't appear to be a latency readout in Nuendo as there was in Cubase. I can 'tell' it very low though, not in anyway impeding. In Cubase I was getting 60mS. I figure I'm getting at least that or lower in Nuendo.

And, how quick are your meters to respond to, say, a snare hit?

Close enough to instant. No problem setting levels.

Mixing no problems, move a fader up, sound goes up, down, sound goes down. No delay. Same with EQ's and effects, responsive as a 911 turbo.
