Hi,

i know this may not be the perfect forum for this, but i there is no nuendo forum, and i thought a lot of the users would be here..

I just got Nuendo for my studio. im still playing with it, just loaded a few cubase projects into it to see how it coped.

now ive added a midi track, and im now wondering how the hell do i change patches and assign patch numbers. y'know in cubase or logic you have a thing on the left which lets you input your patch numbers, transpose info, etc. how do i do it in nuendo? i have been reading the manual, searched help for ages and cant find anythign!!!
help!!!

thanks,
Romesh

wow.....i definitely recommend anyone here to buy Steinberg Nuendo. solid as a rock, im amazed!!!!byebye Cubase!..for now.

i had problems with Nuendo not telling my MTC driven hard disc recorders to stop, so when i hit play , they'd play fine but ouldn't stop. realised the frame rates were wrong! oops!

but seriously guys, anyone who uses cubase or even the people who dont, check this thing out!! it's definitely a contender for pro tools!

Yeah, I'll second that. I've been a Nuendo user for... I don't know, at least a couple of years now, ever since it came out, and I love it!!!
I also have the surround edition. Which I think is stellar!
I use (most) all of Nuendo's hardware too. The 96/52 sound card, and the Nuendo 8 I/O with optical links. I do however use the Yamaha O1V as my control surface for nuendo, but it works seamlessly.
How long have you been using Nuendo? What do you think of the reverb plug-in? How does it compare to out-board reverb units?
You know Nuendo has a users forum at:
http://www.nuendo.com
Worth a trip there if you've never been.

Hi,

well, ive been a Nuendo user since yesterday!!
It's awesome, i recomend it to anyone! I have pro tools aswell but this is great because you dont need specific hardware. The things it can do are just awesome.

I like the whole Cubase feel to it because I am very familiar with cubase. im in the process of altering all the key commands because im used to the cubase layout.

to be honest, i dont use plug ins that much. im a hardware person when it comes to that. I prefer hardware because I just like to be able to physically tweak it and see it, it's a wierd thing but I think you may understand me! i prefer my lexicons, i haven't heard a reverb plug in which has impressed me as much as hardware yet.

still , i love the facilities, the surround stuff is cool, haven't used it yet. im still finding my way around.

i had a few problems with the MTC bu then realised the frame rates were wrong.

i wish they'd kept the right click menu the same style as cubsae though.

the automation is EXCELLENT.

-any tips are welcome! e-mail me!

got a question for you micheal.

in cubase, if i want to fast forward, i press page up, rewind is page down button. if i press shift and any of these, it rewinds/forwards faster. is there any way of doing this in nuendo?

also, when im playing something and i hit stop, how to i get the cursor to stop in that position, it keeps returning to zero. i wanna be able to play from zero, stop somewhere and not have the cursor returning.

help!!
cheers,
Romesh

In Nuendo, to fast forward use the (+) sign on the 10 key pad.
To rewind, use the (-) sign on the 10 key pad. While in FF or RW if you hit the "Enter Key" on the 10 key pad, replay will resume as normal. If you hit the "0" it will stop.

To have the cursor stop where you see it during play back and NOT return to start, Do this:
From the pull down menu at the top of the screen, select Transport Look down, about 2/3 of the way see where it says Edit Mode? Make sure it is NOT checked!
Hope that helps.

Another thing that I find useful is to have a Stationary Cursor. To do this, from the pull down menu, at the top of the screen, choose File, select Preferences.
A "preferences" dialouge box will open up.
From there choose Transport on the left side of the dialouge box. Then, put a little check mark in the "Stationary Cursor box.
What this does is have the cursor stay still, and the "background" moves during playback. (once the cursor reaches the middle of the screen)
This is useful because you can see the "events" comming into cue before they begin to playback.

cheers micheal. keep those tips comin!!!

just did a cute rate session for a band to test out Nuendo. I recorded everything on it, to check how it coped.

wow. amazing, im using quite a high spec computer, and it was solid. the midi was so tight and well synced.

im impressed. i had about 32 tracks running, with about 7 or 8 midi tracks. no timing problems , nothing.

micheal, i know how to fast forward and rewind in Nuendo, but is there a special button you can hold down while winding to speed up the wind speed. i.e. in cubase, you press shift.

cheers mate,
Romesh

Oh, OK, sorry, my bad. I don't know of a way to speed up Fast Forward.
It's great to see that Nuendo is running so well for you! I have ran 18 - 20 traks at once before, but never that many, glad to know its doing well.
What hardware are you using with it?
It is an incredibly powerful program, and touted as being the ProTools/PC alternative.

You really have to start hanging around the official Nuendo forum at http://www.nuendo.com/cgi-bin/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=User+Forum&number=1

I have learned so much there. It seems that most of the folks there also have a UAD-1 card and I bought one after hanging out on the site for a few weeks.
I hang around there sometimes too. Seems to me like everyone complains a lot on that site though. I mean if you have a question, people will help, but most of the posts are complaints about SB Live users wondering why they have latency in their system. Very few posts give "tips and tricks"
Know what I mean?

Hey jgourd!

I saw your post in the Nuendo forums where you said you were using a nforce 420 based motherboard...

Is it still as rock solid as it was when you posted?? For how long have you had this setup? Have you encountered any problems at all?

I'm looking for an alternative to Via chipsets for my next DAW

Thanks

So far so good. I initially had difficulties getting my MOTU 2408 to work in Win98. As a last ditch effort I wiped the boot drive clean and installed Win2K. Everything is perfect for 4 weeks now with two small exceptions.

1. The Win2K UAD-1 drivers are buggy but they have verified my problem and promise to fix before final release of the drivers. I have a useable workaround for now.
2. My USB MIDI interface is acting very strange when sending data to my MotorMix. My current work around is to make the MIDI out from my keyboard feed the MIDI in on the MotorMix and run the MIDI out from the MotorMix to the MIDI in on the MOTU FastLane. This may be a mute point as I have a new Houston out in the truck that I have to hook up later today :-) Wanna buy a MotorMix?

can i use the kenton control freak to control nuendo's audio faders?

If it has a midi out you might be able too.
