Dont buy it, you'll regret it when it crashes on you more than it records properly. Man this is a piece of shit.... thanks for listening to my rant.

Thanks for your opinion Scriabin, but there are plenty of people around who will respectfully disagree with you. I'm one.

I also respectfully disagree.

I would suggest, for you, to try ver. 2.3. That seems to be the last REALLY good version of N-TRACK that ALL users were able to report good things about.

I'm now on version 3.0.5, running on WIN2k, the first REALLY stable version on N-Track since 2.3. It seems to run best with the ASIO drivers, and with external hardware attached to it (I've had NO problems on it with my US-224), but I have to use TWO soundcards on it in order for it to run stable using MME drivers (out using a usb card, in using my VX pocket, which is ideal for me, anyway...)

i have 2.3 and it really ticks me off. yesterday when I posted that message I was really angry... I was using Ntrack to play some midi vst instruments and the damn software crashed 6 outta 7 times when I hit the live button.

try this to see what I mean;

Load a vst instrument under midi in the track column.
Open a blank midi track
open properties of the blank midi track
switch output port to vst instrument click ok
hit live button

It crashes everytime i did it without fail. Please understand its a good program for the money, heck it was my first software I ever had but its always been very unstable. I recently switched to nuendo and havent had one problem...its just frustrating when your trying to record at 3am in the morning and keeps crashing on ya....

nuendo...wow,Mr Big Bucks!I hear that is a very nice, stable platform.Good luck with it ,Scriabin.
Since you qualify your post and explain about using it in the live mode,I have to agree.Lots of folks report just what you have said.

So let me get this straight... you loaded up somebody else's vst instrument code and you blame N-Track???

I think I'll go out and put dragster slicks on my car and then complain to GM when my car hits a tree...

Tim, it has nothing to do with the vst instruments. It has everything to do with the Live button.

Thanks for the viewpoints regarding n-track.
I was thinking about getting it myself.
I will study it further.

it's just about the only multitrack software that will run on my antiquated PC. Very stable - V 2.2. Easy to use. I've never used the Live option though.

why dont you try posting your specific problems on the ntrack board? or email flavio with your problems?

Live button isn't reliable for me either. n-Track is a buggy piece of shit.

BUT, it does work much of the time. It's also affordable and well-supported. It's got a very DIY homey feel to it. If I ran a professional studio I'd probably buy professional software, which is often just as buggy, but for the immediate future n-Track is my choice.

I've also tried Vegas Pro and Nuendo. While they both had some strong points, I still prefer n-Track.

Tip: once you get n-Track working, leave it alone!

Slackmaster 2000

I don't use all that fancy MIDI stuff with nTrack. I haven't had any problems with it at all. I agree with Slack; it's limited (I guess) but very useful for at home applications. Like all other equipment, the more complex you want to get, the more $ you need to spend. For $49, I'm not about to complain.

N-track is no good with MIDI or VST instruments. If this is important to you (it is absolutely meaningless to me) then spend the extra dough and get Cakewalk or Cubase.

N-track does a great job with recording and manipulating audio, which is all I ever use it for. Plus, its $60. If you go into it knowing there are things that it will never do well, and those things are things you can do without, then N-track is perfect. For 90 percent of the home recordists out there, anything more than N-track is overkill.
