So I have a pair of Rode NT2a's that I use on everything. Mainly for drum overheads, but also for overdubbing random instruments and most especially on vocals.
My band is in the process of recording a small demo. We had overdubbed vocals using my NT2a's with excellent results, so much better sounding than the SM58 we have been using (our singer has a boomy voice). Last rehearsal, my guitarist brings over his NT1. He says it is "older" so that it is probably "warmer."
Since I hate arguing with him, since he thinks he knows so much about recording engineering and that this is only a demo and not worth breaking up the band over, I just let the singer use that instead. We do one vocal track and my ears think it is too thin sounding. Then we redo a vocal track that we had done earlier on my NT2a. I A-B'ed the tracks with no EQ or effects and they did not sound that different. Maybe it was my biased ears, I don't know.
Regardless, what are your guys's opinions on these two microphones?
