I have 2 Shure BG4.0's i use for overheads (not a matched pair) and i have a rode NT1A that i originally bought for vocals. Since getting it i noticed it sounds alot better for everything I try it on.

My question is, i dont usually mic the hats at all (the overheads & spill from the snare mic is usually plenty) & was thinking of using the NT1A for this. I want to use it with the kit somewhere as it seems to be my favourite mic.

As it is a large diaphram condenser would i be better swapping it with one of the shures as they are more directional? I have heard that NT1A's are good for overheads (but obviously need 2 of them to make it work properly).
Thanks.
Sam
