If anyone wants to play bass or replace the piano with electric guitar on this wildcard song, that would be cool.

I was not able to use Any plugins since I am using Logic Delta and dont have any plugins anyway(working with logic delta is like pulling teeth)

Also, the free encoder I used did something to the sound.

I would mostly like comments on the singing and the melody since I have not done any kind of compression or eqing thanks to LDelta

Thanks

Very charismatic tune man! And tight sounding. Nice piano and vox...this is pretty original stuff...great melodies and harmonies. What kind of gits are you thinking about? What about keeping both piano and guitar?

Also, LAME is a pretty good free MP3 encoder...(assuming that's not what you are using already :D )

thanks sluice, for the really nice comments and the help about encoders.

That is amazing coming from you, cos the two songs I've heard of yours have been pretty strong musically.

Its a hard life living without WAREZ. I cant believe how hard it is to get stuff done.

At least, what the peavey VMP2 does to my voice makes up for it. I love that box.

Amen to that.. :p A while back, I decided to get rid of all warez/cracked/illegal copied software that I had, and boy was it tough.. :p

as for comments on the song.. well.. uh.. er.. can I say I didn't like it and just leave it at that?? :( :p The "wildcard" didn't really sit well with me. (or that "talking" thing that happened in the background every once in a while) The singing started to "reach" a bit a certain points (like 0:49) but overall it was "ok" at best. The song itself was pretty repetitive, and not personally appealing. (sorry man :( )

Dang this "honesty" stuff is starting to suck already... :(

I don't know...the thing about vocals to me is, they don't have to be musically pefect or even necessarily in tune. They're the human instrument..."human" being the operative. It's the character of the vocals I listen for. I listen to a shitload of Tom Waits for example. His voice is fowl and course and nasty, and often quite out of tune...and it's beautiful.
This song has potential. It sounds like a demo, but it was posted as such. I like the character of it.

LOL watyf.

Thanks for the comments. they are appreciated.

Thanks sluice. I think I sang it a note or two too high. I am just always tempted to go for the impossible. Thanks for your comments though. They inspire me since I was trying to get the emotion on this one.

Not a bad tune. The melody is fine and the vocals are fine for the most part. The harmonies are working.....the vocal strength isnt the greatest I've ever heard but I cant judge that because I double the hell out of my vocals for strength.

This can/will be a good song with some more work.I think a guitar WITH the piano would sound great.I wouldnt trade one for the other.

The emotion is what stood out for me on the vocals. Stood out in a good way!! I can hear you "going for it" and the conviction with which you do is the sweet spot of the vocals.

I tend to attempt the impossible with my vox as well so I can empathize. However, I don't think this one is by any means out of your reach. Have you tried any doubling on the vox? If it's tight, that should smooth it out some.

Thanks for the listen,

Theron.

I think the elec drums sound great. ..and the pno too. I can't decide on the vocals yet. They are nice, but so different from anything I am used to hearing. ....the song too. I think some female bg singers would be nice (if you can find some;) ) I can hear a funk-a-delic guitar part too. I have the urge to "Stevie Wonder-ize" this song, and funk it up with clavs and stuff, but that would only go back in time. I'm useless with help on this cyan. sorry!

theron,

dude thanks for the listen. The double vocal is an idea that I will definitely use in the final.

Thanks again.

WOW mixmkr. You dont know just how much that means coming from you. I trust your ears the most on the internet.

As a matter of fact, I have a wonderful female singer who wants to do backup for me. I dont know what she would do yet. Do you havbe any ideas?

Thanks mixmkr

I like this song. I like that you stretched a bit on the vocals. Harmonies were on the money. The vocal performance was emotive and strong. Keys were very cool, drums sounded the slightest bit hot, but not bad.
I really dig the writing...a real pleasure to listen to good writing!
Something was distorting a bit whenever vox came in, but you mentioned encoding problems so that was probably it.
Very creative, definitely worth developing. I dig your style.
Encore!

Mark

p.s. Have seen the phrase "wildcard song" before, but still don't know what it means...what is it?

This song is really cool. I love the way the second harmony came in around 1:19 around 3 o'clock. The more I listen, the more I like it. Might be my favorite of the day. Whoa... quick ending, but works well. Don't change a thing. Great job.

thanks for the high praise, Cyan.....not sure what you base it on, however.

My initial thoughts would be to have her turn into a trio...:) ..or at least a duo. As far as what to sing...I'm still in left field

Cyan my man, perhaps it's unfair, but I expect a lot from you after reading soo many of your posts..

This gave me a smile..:D Especially when you say the words "this is the wildcard, and the physical manifestation of the wildcard." :D

I do like the lyrics and the melody.. I'll have to disagree here with Sluice about an out of tune vocal sounding good.. I don't think an out of tune vocal ever sounds good.. These vocals weren't too bad though.. I just think you can nail a better vox take.. It is obvious that you can sing, I think you can nail it better than this though.. Needs a good strong bass line.. maybe even a synth bass line would work well..

I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it.. I had a smile on my face for most of it..

I was hoping I could say it sucked, but I can't.. :)

Hey Cyan J....
Nice writing man, lots of potential here. A big fat funky bass line is gonna make this stand up real nice. It sounds like you know what it needs otherwise.... a little more polish on the vocs, maybe a nice funky r. guit. .....real nice stuff man..... looking forward to hearing it when its done. G

yea vocal..... :o
there is a tune in here, no doubt... I think I like the tune....

You almost let me choke in my soup. Synth bass? yuck. I'll pick up my bass later today and I'll give it a shot. I promise absolutely nothing but I'll try.

Hey Aquamarine Big Cat (my bad synonym for your moniker).

Very interesting piece. I liked the melodies, harmonies, and arrangement. Great off-kilter piano part. And I liked the wildcard thing. "You best believe it baby."

Yeah there were some pitch issues. I thought I heard some clipping on the vocals (e.g., :37). Some of the piano chords buried a word here and there.

Someone ought to be able to put in a nice bass line, which would be a nice addition.
