When I bought my NS-10m's years ago, an engineer friend told me to be sure and buy a box of kleenex with them.

So I called Yamaha tech support, and I was told that the original models had harsh tweeters that benefitted from the tissue paper treatment, but that the newer models were redesigned and the problem was corrected.

I think the older models were just NS-10's, while the newer ones were NS-10m's, but i could be wrong. harvey would probably know.

I'm no Harvey...but I believe you are correct....

and Tyler...some of the JBL's had white speaker cones too..

NS-10 -- hmmmm.

Go with the Events or anything else in that range. It takes to long to become adjusted to NS-10's quirks.

If you want the same effect as the NS-10's find an old pair of Auratone speakers. If you can make it sound good on these it will translate well anywhere.

I've got a pair of Auratones...and actually, I find that most stuff ends up sounding good on them, for some reason....unless your bass instrument balances are off.... and you can't correct them listening on the Auratones either. I like them, because after blasting away for awhile, they allow the ears to relax a bit and they actually sound very similar to my jbl's and uries...but just not as loud.
