Now you can create your own amp sims...with amp "profiling".

Here you go, for all you sim/mod lovers...supposedly you can now "profile" any amp, and create a sim for it with the Kemper Profiling Amp.

Only thing is...you actually need the tube amps to begin with so you can "profile" them. :)
I guess if you know someone with a lot of nice tube amps...or maybe you can convince the guys at the local Guitar Center to let you profile some of their floor models. ;)

Hey...I love technology, I work in IT, so I get the whole digital thing, but I still prefer my real tube amps for guitar playing, but I'm sure people will get a kick out of this.
I have no idea what it costs.....?



 
Wow that's pretty cool! I'm guessing that it records and plays multiple impulse files derived from different colors of noise sent through the amp. I'll bet that sucker is gonna be expensive.

That would be the ultimate mind-bender...use the Kemper to profile a Line 6 modeling amp that's modeling a real tube amp! :D

Wouldn't that be something like drinking diet soda and adding some Nutrasweet to it for more sugar-like flavor? ;)
 
Depending on how good it sounds I think it would pretty useful just so I can profile my own amps and not have to go through the rigmorale of shifting a bunch of stuff round my living room and miking them up. :D

The reality of course is that my subconscious won't be able to accept not using the amps I've come to love using. :laughings:

For me it IS about the whole ritual of considering which amp I want to use...firing up a couple...demoing some tones...putting up the mic...etc...etc.

I know a lot of guys like to say that the reason they use a sim/pod is because it's easier/faster...but I don't see amp miking as any difficulty, and I'm really not in a hurry to quick, record some guitar... :) ...so for me, working with and recording amps is just a lot more fun....that whole process is what makes recording fun.

It's like when I use to be into MIDI and sequencing and synths...I use to think that it saved time, and that I didn't have to go through the hassle of miking real instruments...etc...but then I found out that for me, THAT WAS the fun of recording....the pprocess, not just the end result.

AFA the Kemper Profiling Amp...yeah, I can see some guys wanting to use it as their "amps in a box" tool...like what you're saying...go and profile all their amps and then just take the Kemper to the gig...etc...and that's cool, if it works for you.
For me there's something cool about having a real amp...for recording or for gigs. It's not just about "the sim sounds like the real thing and you can't tell the difference"...there's more to it than that for me.

Oh...speaking of "sounds like the real thing"...in those Kemper videos, especially the one he does alone in the room....even though I agree that the profile sounds pretty close, I can still hear a difference, even on my shitty computer speakers. It's like the profile version has a certain raw/rough edginess to it, where the original was smoother...it's most noticeable when he plays the crunch/distortion.

I noticed this as well. I've yet to hear an amp sim that can recreate distorted guitar accurately. It's like the difference between talking to someone face to face and talking to them over the phone. You can still recognize the persons voice but it just doesn't sound the same.
 
I don't really think it's possible to 100% accurately reproduce the response you get from a good tube amp without actually using a good tube amp. You can emulate the actual sound all you want, but how it feels is a big factor.

And everybody knows a Jedi has to feeeeeel the Force....it's the same way with a digital sample pianowith plastic keys and a real grand piano, it just feeeeeeels different.
 
yup, a few years ago i started using a POD xt for live shows, just because of ease of use (and I saw Weezer use them too). at first i thought this was the end of all my beloved tube amps, but you are right, the feel really makes a HUGE difference in my mind.

I'm not sure what that has to do with amp sims. Are you talking about animal crossing? My kids used to play that a long time ago.
