Now what do I need?

Ok. I am mixing to DAT. I wanted to put it on the computer 24bit, but that meansi have to go analog out of dat and then have it converted again. I could go in digitally, but then I can't get that 24 bit thing goin on and round here that's a selling point with studios.... any suggetions/ products? It is a tascam Da-30 dat which says it has 18 bit d/a converters which is why i am confused as to what would happen going directly from the digital outs of the dat to the computer. ONe possibility I thought of is a premium 24bit a/d with dither which i'd use before the dat then after it to computer. and of course digital i/o card for the computer. I may have just answered my own question but still any suggestions.....

IF YOUR DAT AND COMPUTER HAVE FIBER OPTICS CAPABILITIES, YOU CAN USE FIBER OPTIC CABLES AND LOSE NO QUALITY, YOU MIGHT NEED TO GET A SOUNDCARD WITH FIBER OPTIC "INS". THAT'S WHAT I DO, AND I'VE NEVER LOST ANY SOUND QUALITY THAT WAY.

Hey,

If you want to go direct from DAT machine to PC without losing quality there's a solution. Alexis makes an interface card just for that purpose, it costs $300 at Musicians Friend. You could also use it as a direct interface while recording, so you could get more tracks and lighten the load on the DAT. Hope this helps.

i know creative labs makes the soundblaser live value 2nd edition cards with spdif I/O's.. it goes for around 50 bucks on ebay...

what i dont know however , is if those are 24 bit i/o's.. i would doubt it for 50 bucks , but then again is their even value set to spdif for bitrate ? i wouldnt know..but someone else might...
