I was tracking drums this weekend, and decided to use my DMP3 as a pre for a talkback mic. I decided I wanted to hear the drummer's mix, so I took a TRS cable from the headphone jack of my 1824CD and patched it the stereo in of a Rolls RA62 HA headphone amp. The talkback mic went to the DMP3, and then to the left (mono) aux in of the RA62. Now, that works just fine, the talkback mic is completely out of the signal chain. What the hell, I can sing along if I want to, 'cause the drum mics are mostly padded like a mother. BUT... when I went to master the whole thing to 2 mastering tracks (just a rough mono house mix), I didn't think much about it, but the talkback mic went live to the mastering tracks!!?. When I played back the mastering tracks, I could hear myself and my wife talking. Fortunately, none of it appears to be on the raw tracks, I just had to cut the master tracks and remix most of the fucking album! Grrr. Anybody have any idea why that would happen, only while mastering?-Richie
