My Alesis amp has heatsinks like that. I cut my knee open on them once.

Jeff, nope!

Steenamaroo, what Alesis amp has a heatsink that big??? That chunk I'm holding is about 17" wide and the aluminum is so thick...it's heavy...I was struggling to hold it like that extended out so I could get it all in the shot.

BUT...we're getting closer...it's from an amp...an amp kit that was never assembled. My dad got it for $5 at a garage sale and gave it to me...not just heat sink, the whole kit. :) it's almost all there but unfortunately missing the faceplate and cooling fan but I'm not complaining.

Ah, bigger than I realised. The alesis ra150 has heatsinks on either side but they're maybe only 8" long.

I'd guess a Dynaco 400 stereo amplifier, is the source of that chunk.

That is a honker! Speaking of face plates, my first bad ebay experience many years ago was having a perfect condition Yamaha P2050 power amp shipped to me in a box with no packing whatsoever. There were holes in the box where the corners of the rack ears ripped through and the ears were badly smashed and bent by the time it got to me. I know now to make sure an ebay seller isn't a pawn shop in Detroit! Anyway, I bought the thickest 2-space blank rack plate I could find, cut the necessary holes in it and replace the front, so now the thing looks brand new. Don't know if that will help or not in this case, but thought I'd mention it. ;)

I immediately thought of the MSR-24 power supply. Its roughly the same size, but I think it's actually three heatsinks each about 6" wide.

Thanks, Tim. Yeah I think if I need to I'll probably cough up and have Front Panel Express make something for it.

Yes, this is a "chunk"...about 17" wide, I believe 4U high and about 7" deep, and mdainsd is the big winner...Dynaco 416 actually. More pictures to follow, but the component and PCB quality on this thing is amazing...right on-par with my Ampex MM-1000 and MCI JH-416.
