The jobs sound great but the pay scale wont cover gas and phone bills.

things sounded sort of serious until the $25 a week.

this is either a joke or a misprint.

if it's not, expect to hire someone who is barely qualified to work at mcdonald's.

well thanks for the feedback -- like i said, i am NEW to the whole idea. im really interested in finding someone that wants to team up than be an EMPLOYEE. though i know "team" is not really gonna happen so . . .
1) how much should i up the compensation ?
2) the 1st job is really "desk, computer and phone" so gas shouldtn be an issue. i can reimburse the phone bill charges . . . for instance if the person makes the calls on his/her phone, i can "pay" for them . . . i guess . . . show me your phone bill, and i will pay for the charges ????

You're definitely going to have to comp office expenses. Just booking our band and sending out presskits could cost anywhere from $200-$300 a month in phone charges, postage, and office supplies. Not to mention the cost of a hispeed internet connection. Around here hispeed internet is $65/mo minimum, not including cable modem rental or installation.

You say you want people who want to "team up" rather than employees; be careful. Most people realize this is a euphemism for getting worked like a dog and paid nothing because it's "for the company". What exactly does being on the "team" get me? Some vague promise of loyalty if things take off? Or are you giving a real share in the business?

Just like I tell bands, there are two ways of doing a business: partners, or employees. If I'm a partner, I share the expenses, I share the profit, and I share the ownership (and therefore the power). If I'm an employee, I do my thing and get my paycheck rain or shine. Your problems are not my problems, and your successes are not my successes. Anything in between is just screwing people over and whitewashing it in euphemism.

i whole heartedly agree. i know it sounded like bullshit. but i mean it. i would rather get with people and create a partner ship. now if i cant find it then im forced to go with employees.
if i have employees, i will make sure i can pay them. i know how hard it is to do ANYTHING. i will keep my word. i have been bullshitted and euphemised to death, my damm self. so i wont do it.

if i find people interested in partnership/team . . . we will come to an agreement about how to make THAT work.

For what you are looking for and the price you need to pay (essentially nothing), you should try and put together a "street team". If your artist is good enough, there will be people who are looking to help in minor ways.

You (the "label") will produce things such as fliers for shows, which you then give to them to hand out. Or cd samplers, stickers, things like that. The only "compensation" you offer the people for their "work" is perhaps a special password protected area at messageboard on the artists website, limited guest passes at shows, special info/media clips that "regular" fans don't get to see, etc. The only thing is, they decide how much work goes into it because again, they are working free just for the love of the artist.

I've seen this approach work for many singer/songwriter types of musicians. But you really do have to have an artist that floors people or the street team will be a waste of effort. If you have one of those artists who can make that work, you will know...in fact, people will ask YOU if there's anything you can do to help.

show chicks will be your best bet dude.... they always seem to "know somebody". get a few of them to run promos....it always helps me....i have 2 that are determined to be on the album cover, they have the video planned out and everything...granted i have no money but one of them has a video camera. another one coreographs her college dance team....so in that bit alone i have my album cover, video layout, dancers, coreographer and an extremely hilarious time. and this is just the band, i havent made my own label yet.

im feelin that d.r.

im feelin that for real!!!

hmmm, now i gotta figure out a way to find that!!!!

I'm also looking for someone to work like a dog for me for free, so if anybody is interested, or knows somebody please e-mail me :D

home base = richmond/chesterfield va

-- whats up with your area?

I have a band here... the scene was going good for awhile, but not so much anymore. We're recording and about to put out some new material. I also produce hip hop and rap since I am the only one in Lynchburg to have a *cheap* home studio... there are two other studios that are pretty expensive.

any "market" there for some type of show that . . ahhh . . maybe we could put on together . . . rock/rap jamm fest for instance . . ?

there's definitely a market. there's 6 colleges in this city man. just need a good venue. we have a place called the "academy of music"... there's also a record exchange (independent record chain) and several coffee shops as well as a few restaurants that let people play.
