novation k-station

I'm looking for a midi controller and I thought well, why not get a small synth with loads of knobs on and some decent sounds and a small keyboard.

I've seen the novation k-station and it seems to fit the bill. Also also-runners are the nova lead and the smallest 'motif' from yamaha.

So which one do I get? Any other suggestions?

that depends on what you wanna make with it...

well I need it essentially to control internal audio instruments in Logic (exs24 etc). That was my first consideration. I also need some full, fat synth noises (sweeps, definatelysomedecent pads etc) . That was my second consideration. I need a small keyboard to sit in front of and use to control my rackmounted synth ( a roland 1080). THat was my third consideration. Thanks.

for fat synths, sweeps, pads and noises, the novation products are the top line... I know the supernovas and nova supports use as a midi controller, by freeing the knobs and keys from thye synth itself, so you'll be able to control other devices with them, but i'm not sure about the K-station...

depending on your budget i'd recommend getting a synth and an evolution or miditech midi controller with knobs on the side..
it would be a pain to constantly have to go to the global menu to switch on knob activity again.

you'll be much more happy with this in the long run. You can also save some money by buying the new synth as a rackmount, but it's always nice to have extra keys...

if you can afford a nova, then you got the most killer synth imaginable...

Thanks for the advice. Funnily enough, almost as soon as I finished writing the mail I thought about what I'd written and whether there would be any problems using a synth (whose midi knobs are essentially designed for another purpose) as a midi controller.

I'm going to go with your idea: I'm getting the pocket dialler from Doepfer and we'll see about the synth at a later pay check
