hi all,
has anyone had experience with the novation k-station and/or the korg ms2000? other than some of the obvious differences, how do they compare as far as creating a wide range of quality sounds is concerned? which has more flexibility and ability to make interesting organic sounds and not just cheesy techno stuff? i know that sounds real vague, but any help/info about these two synths would be great, thanks!

they're both great, but i'd prefer the k-station anyday... it's got some options that other synth manufacturers haven't even thought about yet.. endless amount of modulation options, syncable flanger... syncable panning.. syncable additional filter and a wicked arpeggiator...

imho novation makes the best synths out there... i mean, if you have once just tried the supernova 2 then you're sold...

Hey Mirrorful,

What's up, I asked some of the same questions in this forum and got real helpful info. Check them out

Look for the topics Korg MS2000, Novation A Station, EMU Mo Phatt and Software Synths vs. Hardware Synths

Hope this helps !!!

Personally I am glad this post came up. As one who is trying to do spacemusic, which requires long, flowing pad-type sounds and space sounds and effects, it is very difficult to decipher what to get when many synths are geared for rock/pop/techno mucic. Even the samples that the manufacturers put out never really seem to help me out in this regard.

ms2k

I use the Ms2k as my main synth and as my midi controller for softsynths and the like.

I use it exclusively as a performance synth, not for techno style arpeggiated stuff at all. It is great for pads, basses and searing 70's style leads (think Goblin, Yes, Tortoise, etc...). It also has some decent electric piano type sounds, organs, and the like. The delay and modulation on board is great for psychedelic sounds...as is the virtual patch section.

Altogether a very playable synth since all the needed parameters are adjustable in real time via knobs...

There are some complaints that the midi timing is poor for the arpeggiator sync...but it doesn't affect me. If I wanted step style stuff like that I would have gotten the electribe EA-1 (which sounds very similar), but not as thick.

If you want to hear it, I used it in all the songs at

and

Okay, your band is really cool. I listen to Tortoise and Trans Am and other bands in the same genre, and I dig on your stuff...
