Hi, I want to make a (Band Name Here) shreds video but I'm not sure how to go about it. I got Adobe Audition 3, Reason 4 and Fruity Loops and an audio interface. Apparently Fruity loops is not supported in Audition. Any idea as to how to make this happen?

Heres an example of what I want to do:

Are you asking how to lay audio over a video? That should be covered quite implicitly in your video editing program's manual. Adobe Audition isn't a video editing program.

Are you asking how to make shitty music like in that video?

I have to say...I don't get why The Mars Volta or similar style bands get so many props in the media...??? I've seen a few appearances by them...and they always sounded like that.
Yeah...there's some of that "Mothers of Invention" flavor (very little)...but with a BIG difference in musicianship, execution and ultimate intent.
Mind you, I'm not just into beautiful, melodic styles...but that is just a lot of noise. :D

Now....back to the original question...

That video of The Mars Volta has nothing to do with "scoring" a video...that's just a videotaped performance.
There's nothing difficult about that...just put up a camera during your performance. :)
If you want better audio than what the camera can capture...then recording the audio at the same time with better audio gear...and then just swap the audio tracks using something like Sony Vegas, which is a video editor.

That's exactly what I'm doing right now. I've recorded some guitar clips of me playing, but I don't care for the quality of the audio from the camera mic...so I simultaneously also recorded audio into my DAW...and now I will swap audio files in Vegas.

If you are talking about a typical MTV-style music video production....that's a lot more work and planning, though how involved can go from very minimal to something like shooting a full tilt short movie.

miroslav, I think he's talking about a specific type of video..these "xxxx shreds" videos are performance videos from artists overdubbed with really crappy performances, it's funny the first time you see/hear it...pretty played out now.

I just don't understand if he's asking how to lay the audio on the video or if he's actually asking how to make the music, since he doesn't mention a video editing program

Oh...
I only listened to about 10 seconds of that video...(actually thought it was them!) :D
Well...either way, I still don't think much of The Mars Volta or that style of music...that avant-avant-garde style. :)

AFA doing that type of spoof video...well, you have to try and sync your crappy playing on top of their moves. Basically...play as you watch their moves.
Nothing more than that.
But even in doing the spoof...it will take some rehearsal to get it tight with the video's moves.

As an aside...
I wish that when folks ask questions they would take the time to word them succinctly, so the question asks exactly what they want. So often we'll spend several posts just trying to figure out what the OP really wants. ;)

Of course...I don't always pickup on stuff correctly either...the 60s/70s left their marks! :laughings:

Avante Garde indeed. Not my cup-o-tea. It almost looked like they were a dance group at first so I held on slightly longer than 10 seconds, expecting to see some hot dancer chicks.

Most editing software can slice and dice and swap and stretch audio as needed. For me I use a combination of ffmpeg and audacity in linux. And a few other things. But I tend to do things the hard way.
