ive been producing for about a year now...
(im 24 and have been listening and studying hip hop since around 88)
i think i have come a long way learning how to do this shit on my own
i go down to the local station and freestyle or they play my beats and thats all good
but so many of my friends even the cats at the station just dont seem to have that much love or at least i dont see it
i constantly ask them to come thru to my studio and we'll jam or whatever
but guess what happens
no one ever shows
in the last year i have worked with maybe 3 of my friends when i have asked contless others to come thru

do any other peeps get this alot?
or is this just me

im pretty much giving up on the callaboration thing casue im getting real tired of the shit other people do

sorry just a rant i needed ot get out

People are like that everywhere, and it's like that with all types of music. I'm mainly dedicated to spinning Breakbeats and producing any type of techno; and I have the same problem tyring to get people to hang and create some new beats.

Oh well, their lose! We'll only get better at it.
 
You might be better off without most of them cats, I for one am never going to have another group....... EVER!!!!!
I don't mind collaborating, but most cats are just not serious, they talk a good game, but they're not disciplined enough to get some serious work done. I find that it's best to work with people you meet through friends and family. I was fortunate to find one guy who is the most serious MC I ever worked with so I stick with him. But you might just have to ask them people what the deal is, how serious they are. I was asked that question once, and it caused me to really think about where I stood as far as this music.

Oh man....... This is tru bigtime.... I have some local artist around my way that were definetly very good lyricists...... But the level of professionalism was very low........ I was trying to record and produce solo albums and compilations...... TO make a long story short I trashed it all.... Because of the foolishness these imature Mcee's were putting me through......

This is why I have put all my attention into promoting Chop Shop instead of Chop Shop and a crew of Mcee's...... For the most part now I will only work with an artist if they are paying me for my time and services.... So if they want to bullshit I don't care because they are paying me.....

And for some reason, cats don't wanna pay for beats unless you charge out the ass for em, I used to offer beats so cheap it was rediculous, still cats ain't serious and they was flippin over them beats. Now I don't even sell beats no more, you just gotta be down........ or willing to pay me what I deserve.

I see cats I was rhymin with in highschool and I see where they are in life and I'm glad the old crew broke up. Only one is doing better than smalltime, the others are up and down, up and down. Since I decided to start building my own studio, it's only been up... slowly but surely.
 
It's topics like this that made join this board. We all know the cats that don't talk rap until they get around you. As soon as they start talking to the next man it's about old football games, dope (smoking , selling whatever), or just plain f---ing off. Before they leave your presence though they gone start talking that s--t. We gone do it man. We gone blow this thing up. Then they go home and snuggle up while we go home (or to that little hole you dug out in the pits of your hopelessness to give you some kinda peace of mind for one measly minute) and proceed to try and drop some fire from our souls. Just trying to have something in life to hold onto besides fears of failue and big booties. It's enough to break your concentration up and have you doing some of the dopest songs about them cats. Never let those cowards stop you. I'm digging this board. Hope it's no cowards lurking around here.

I had these two cats drop by unexpectedly talkin about puttin a couple of songs together for this project before the deadline.

The deadline for submission is F**in tomorrow! Why da hell are they droppin by when I'm bout to get my sleep on talkin that SH** when they been callin me for the last two weeks like. "we gon get up and do this" PLEASE I had my sh*t ready the day I was asked about it.

And what's with "that guy" You know, that cat that's always around, everybody knows him cause he's always hangin around.......... but he don't rhyme, he don't produce, he does'nt sing, dj, he don't pay the studio bills, nothin! he's just always around, always talkin about puttin in work and let's make it happen :rolleyes:....... what the hell does he have to offer? :mad: who the hell is he anyway?:mad:

"he" is your crew. "he" is your first fan. and when you finally have that hit, "he" is the one telling your low sh*t to anyone who will listen.

vocalist on the whole are just erratic lunatics. they are your front man. they envision groupies, they envision popularity, but unless they have a good work ethic or are so INSANELY TALENTED that you make your schedule work around theirs... they wont cut it.

i've had some fairly talented people come through CROS Studio and 90% of them were lunatics.

whatever you do with said lunatics... get your money or make them sign a contract stating your contribution for any work that you do.
 
One cat some years ago said to me> If only we had original tracks to bust to. I thought to myself... i can do that. I started buying beat machines and doing tracks (wack as hell at first but i got better). Then the same cat says> If only we had someone to record us good. I said> I can do that. I spent all my loot on equipment. Whole days learning EQing, Compression, and that studio thinking ( hell i still do it now. why am i here. ). Never really even bothering to question the cats around me talking that shit about how we would bleed for this rap shit. Stupid me. You see I believe in niggas (people in general). I believe in myself and i invest in my beliefs to my blood (rather use dollars though). I took him serious and i knew without a doubt i was serious. It's funny how after close to I just recorded this cats first solo song about an hour ago. He doesn't even realize what made it possible. I took him serious.

I don't even know how to end this. Take from it what you can i guess.
 
i do my own shit too.. but my momma still have to wipe me... but that's no shame, i'm only 21 :)
 
I feel what you both are sayin.

I'm one of the only vocalists I know who isn't a lunatic, maybe two others. I just don't see eye to eye with alot of them cats, and they can't see why I think the way they handle their shit is unproductive. And it's not just vocalists, I know a couple a eccentric (crazy ass) producers who I refuse to work with anymore.

I think Cross studio is right, that way if they wanna wild out I won't care as much.

i just recently bought a Tascam 428 USB recorder so I can record the rapper who i'm collaberating with wherever he might be at the moment. he is a certified lunatic... but he can spit.

he's got flow and he's got a dynamic voice and i just can't spit like that... he's just sane enough for us to get work done because he understands the work aspect.
 
Okay, how bout this cat who wants me to produce some joints on his R&B album, I really don't like him, he's an extremely talented vocalist and keyboardist, not even the worst lunatic, he's calmed down alot over the last two years. But I still don't really like his vibe. I'm willing to work with him, but he aint got no money, no job, just living off his music for now and it ain't enough to pay for his gas. I want some good music to come out of this, but not at a cost to me (stress, extra time, running my equipment, inconviniencing the fam) any insight?

without stress?!? Ain't gonna happen. Just gotta decide if it's worth it for you to do the project with that guy. At least it seems you can tolerate his ass AND you admire his skills. That's probably a plus, especially if he's one to put in work and you both can come up with agreeable schedules. GET SOME PAPERWORK IN ORDER WITH HIM, FIRST.
