Hello, I'm a newbie and inherited this equipment. The previous owner was a recording artist and I believe all was hooked up correct, I hope. I have in one box is a Roland Gr-1 guitar synth, Alesis studio 12R,(this is where the 2 monitors are plugged into the bottom at monitor designated) Studio Module sm1sp(this is where I'm plugging the guitar into and has several other 1/4 plugs there too),a Peavy profex 2 midi preamp, powered by a peavy pv 260 130X2 pro amp and the 2 monitors are un-powered black widow super structure speakers that are about 14 inches in diameter and not busted and in good shape. The problem is at full volume, it's not as loud as factory cheap car stereo. Granted, I can hear the sounds somewhat, but shouldn't this set up ratlle the walls of my home? I have the headphone button NOT on the headphone setting. I'm using single instrument wires with 1/4 plugs. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Randy

It was used...

At the gigs he played for him to hear his own instrument over the bands powered amps with the equipment stated here. There is no way he could hear his instrument then. The powered amps would have swallowed the monitor up. How loud are monitor speakers at a gig compared to a powered amp? I've never played one so I don't know. I wondered that a car stereo with say 25 watts plays louder than this with smaller 2X 6 inch speakers, something doesn't add up.

Inside your car you only have to fill up about 4 square feet of space. In a large room now your looking at big square footage, then outdoors you can never fill up the outdoors with sound.

Have you tried plugging the monitors into the AMP outputs? Right now, they are being powered by the Alesis mixer, whose monitor outputs are supposed to go to active (amplified) monitors.

Can't find any

Can't find Amp outputs. I looked on all of the units I have. where would they be? Sorry for my lack of knowledge and thanks for all of your help. It seems with the 130X2 amplifier, it should be able to make more volume, if I can plug it in the right place. Where are the amp outputs, I looked on all the units? thanks

mjbphotos is on the right track, I think.

Unpowered monitors need an amplifier between the monitors and the mixer outputs, where you have them plugged in.

Show us a picture of your amplifier (front and back) and maybe we can help more. These devices amplify a signal, so they have inputs and outputs of some sort, but they may or may not have suitable jacks/connectors for your application.

The Peavey amp has 2x130W speaker outputs. Look on the back of it for 2 jacks or screw terminals.
