i sent my Ampeg SVT-3 Pro in for warranty work a couple weeks ago. it had been giving me some trouble. mostly, after playing it for about 5 minutes or so, the gain would seem to drop by at least 50%. under normal circumstances, my bass could get the clip light to come on with the gain about half way up on the amp. suddenly, the amp will drop volume, and i'll get no clip light. i have to turn the gain up, and even then it will barely register a clip even if i smack the string really hard. so then i'd have to make up for it with master volume, and with the gain all the way up like that its just really noisy. plus, once the gain cuts out, for some reason the MUTE button will make a really really loud POP when depressed. when the amp is working like normal, there's no noise on the mute switch.

so today i was pretty happy because i the amp finally came back from the shop. first of all, the packing job they did was pretty atrocious. the box was all banged up (probably used), they put one layer of the big bubble wrap around the amp, then surrounded it with packing peanuts, and it wasn't even tightly filled with the peanuts. half the bubbles on the wrap were popped when i opened the box...!

anyway, i take out the amp and plug it in. hey it works! i get to playing, and everything seems fine. mute button works good, amp sounds great...then BAM. same...fucking...problem. the volume cuts out, i have no gain on the input, and if i turn it up to a reasonable volume, i get all kinds of hiss. WHAT THE HELL DID I SEND IT IN FOR!?!?!??? shit!

according to the work order, it says they "Replaced (4) Power Transistors & 1 IC Op Amp"

so i guess i gotta call them up and figure out my next step. they owe me a new one i'd say, haha. or at least a used one that works.
