NOS Ampex 641 tape.

Just came across this local ad.
Would this tape most likely be sticky????

The reel I bought wasn't sticky.

641 isn't back coated, so it won't be sticky. I've used it. I have had it lose a little oxide especially when the tape path wasn't aligned properly. A little oxide shedding is normal though. I am pretty sure it has lower bias req'ts then something like 456 so you may need to adjust your bias settings. I've noticed a little distortion and "muddiness" when using it on a deck setup for 456, which is consistent with overbias.

It's lacking in low end on my 4300SX compared to UD 35. The bias and eq presets didn't help much.
