Hi guys... Recently I found this GREAT guitar player called Nordal Twang...

I would like to have your opinion about how to "recreate" his sound... Particulary on the track Heard it Before...

I´m not a guitar player myself, but that´s the kind of tone I was hearing on mind for quite some time...

(disclaimer: I know that 80% of the tone comes from the player... I´m not gonna start playing 8 hours a day to achieve that kind of sound... I just wanna some pointers about it...) :)

Thanks!

Nordal Twang

Hi
This is Jesper Nordal from "Nordal Twang"
Thanks a lot for your interest in the music - we really appreciate it.
I will gladly share some info as far as I can remember it:
First of all, I tune my Strat 1/2 step down - which gives it a lot more botttom end - and allows me to play with thicker strings.
Then I use my beloved, old, noisy and heavy ´69 Marshall Superlead with 4x12 greenback cabinet - obviously only 1 of the speakers - but with 2 sm57 mics - one pointed almost directly to the center, and one slighly turned towards the side ... took a long time to find the right position.
I also tracked my Fender Bassman RI combo, but it just adds some high freq and a little more bite to the tone.
For clean sound I used a RC-boost to push the slightly driven amp, and for leads I used a tubescreamer, a BB preamp - for the more distorted tracks on the record I can´t remember if I used a Keeley Fuzzhead or a Maxon SD-9. Reverb and delay was added in the mix.
I think alot of the tone comes from knowing your amp and guitar, and let some of the drive comes from the amp - and nothing beats the old plexi !
Louise from the studio (Soundscape, Denmark) have a nice old SSL mixer which also sounds great.
Greetings
Jesper Nordal

Welcome aboard! :D

Hi
I´m using a Matchless Chieftain, or a Suhr Badger 30 w 2x12 cab with Celestion g12h30+Celestion Gold or I play with my Bassman combo.
My old pedalboard are on my website jespernordal.dk - gear
I got it made -pretty much the same pedals, but with a design and wiring thats better than I can do on my own.
