Watsup everyone. Super noob here with a few horrible guitar recordings under my belt. I got an Sm57 to try to record better stuff but i dont really have any idea what im doing. I got an xlr-xlr, xlr-1/4, and a 1/4-1/8 adapter. Im using whatever soundcard my laptop came with when i got it. What should I get to make this work? I was thinking an audio buddy preamp but I don't know if that will work.

The adapter isn't going to be your solution. Trying to use the 57 with the built-in laptop soundcard is not going to sound very good.
You should at least get a pream/converter combination interface....there are many out there...depends on your budget.

If you or anyone else can recommend a few things that i should take a look at it would be greatly appreciated. I really have no idea what i should be looking for with these things:) Id rather not spend too much because Im not looking to get pro level recordings just something that sounds ok

read the stickys at the top of this forum for newbieys about computer recording. Before you buy something 'cheap' because you want it now, think about what you might want to do in the future. Buying an interface that only lets you record one track at a time now will limit what you can do in the future.

BTW, the SM57 is a classic choice for guitar. When you get it interfaced properly, it should sound great.

I gotcha man. I just honestly don't know how far my projects are gonna go. May need to upgrade one day
