Hi all.
Well, I'm new to this site but not exactly a complete noob to this all, however I am completely self taught and have been recording my own things for a few years, stumbling blindly through many things until i nut it out.
For various reasons I have had to start all over again with a new computer which I have just setup tonight. I have moved from XP to Windows 7 and am using my old Tascam US-122 (which for the record I love!), hooked to external speakers and intend on running Cubase again.
Now, the problem is I have no sound! I used to hook everything up and there was sound during Windows, sound for all inputs etc etc.
This is my current setup / connections :
Record player -> Line In into Tascam -> Line out and into my speakers (and Tascam is connected to computer via USB)
This setup is fine for playing my records, I am currently listening to it right now so its works.
However, when I take the LineIn out (ie disconnect the record player) there is nothing. WELL, OBVIOUSLY.
HOWEVER, when it is disconnected, this used to be my normal setup and I could hear all sounds coming through my computer, ie Windows sounds, video players, anything on the screen etc etc
SO, my question is WHAT AM I DOING WRONG??? WHY CAN'T I HEAR AUDIO FROM ANY SOURCE THAT ISNT A DIRECT INSTRUMENT LINE IN?
I have not installed Cubase yet to test any other things involving that.
I hope I have made sense here, this has really been bugging me for a few hours now, if anyone can offer some help I would be very grateful!
Here I was thinking I had half a clue when it came to recording, but nope!
NOOB!
PS I tried installing the Tascam drivers but they were outdated, so did some googling and found that the Vista drivers SHOULD work (as there are no W7 drivers being released). I have installed them, and assume they worked since I am getting audio playback from the record player...?
Further to the noob element of this question, does my motherboard's sound card have anything to do / affect my external Tascam in any way at all??? I have never understood this side of things. As far as I understand, when I plug the Tascam in via USB, it becomes my soundcard? Please help...
cheers
