(They were mastered at a "pro" facility)

Equip... BlackFace adats and an Lx 20 (3 altogether)...... Mackie 32/8 board...

4033 mic... Using the mackie Pre's...

The bulk was recorded in about 1 weeks time during evenings after work... and a few songs were before and after that....

If this thread wasn't called "non Christian rock, here it is", more people might respond.

the songs were cool for pop, and it was recorded well.
I can picture it on MTV I guess, but I don' watch MTV.
I'm sure this is probably good pop though.

Don't feel bad about the amount of responses, I had like 100 views and only a few responses., but they were worth it.

peace.

Yeah, I know... but the Christian guys are always labelling there stuff Christian Rock... and we did have a discussion about that way back.... so I thought I would label mine accordingly...

Just sort of a joke..... thanks for listening Bsabath.....
I will check yours out....

QUEUE

Try using the "PLAY ALL SONGS-Hi Fi Broadband" button

Thats how i get the songs to play.... My media player pops up and I can listen while its downloading.......

When I click on the songs alone, I do get a weird "File is not supported" message...

Play all songs works....

Cheers, and Thanks

Hey Vox,

I went to your website to listen to a song or two, but its all Real Audio. Like many I wont put it on my computer. If you have an mp3 somewhere Ill give it a listen.

About the Christian Rock thing. I was somewhat put off by it. I guess i would have to consider my stuff Christian but i dont promote it in that way. Its about recording music here not the religion.
Just my 3 cents.

Good luck with your cd.

Everyone, lighten up on VV on the non-christian comment, he put a winkey smiley in there, it was meant as a joke....

VV,

Good job in the production department. What's your rig? The sequenced drums were done very well but make the songs sound a bit dated (as in 80s). This may be the sound your looking for however. The instruments are separated well and the vocals fit nicely over the arrangement and are upfront enough. Sounds like you may have also used a pod or other amp sim? Unfortunately it's hard to mask these modern conveniences and make them sound like the real thing but great job anyway. I'm in the same position (drum machine and POD) and would be very happy if I could get my mixes to sound like yours especially since they were recorded in the course of a week.

As far as soungwriting/arrangement. There' s definately some catchy tunes there however they don't fit into what big brother says is "in" right now if you know what i mean. I don't know if this bothers you or not. I guess if your one of those "I am going to be discovered" kind of people then it would since your stuff probably wouldn't get any airplay on the radio. But if your asking if the songs are good I would say definately.

Hey Vox,

Didn't mean to sound like an ass when i said, "maybe you'll get more responses if not for the title of this thread, I just meant that i thought it was going to be some death metal or something and that's WHY I checked it out, and others might not. I expected some death, and I got some TOP NOTCH radio rock. Thats a compliment because im sure thats what your going for. I listened to every song and when i clicked play all songs (Hi-Fi), it played through Music Match, because I have it set to be the default player for these types. Your tunes where even better when I
read that its you playing all the instruments.

Queue,
not everyone understands what a "winkley smiley" is, at least, I didn't.

Sorry Guys.....

I meant the Non-Christian thing totally as a joke..... I find that songs at the mp3 clinic seem to get more responses when they have controversial thread titles..... I guess mine backfired....

I meant no dis-respect to Christianity..... Im not a believer, but I do have the utmost respect for those who do believe......

Anyways that said.....

VIRTUAL SAMANA:
The drums.... yeah thats actually a funny story.... I have a crapload of samplers, drum machines ..... The problem with them is it's very hard to find a real sounding kit....

The drums you are hearing are all handplayed, on a Roland XP-80 Keyboard... they are just preset sounds.... and I didn't do any fancy layering or sequencing.... that is my hands playing the whole beat at once to a click track... then I quantize them..

The velocity variance on the keyboard gives each hit a slightly different feel.... they must be multy tiered samples or something, but they are the closest thing I have to real sounding drums...

Most the cymbals and tamb. are real live instrument overdubs....

And yeah, thats the mighty POD :)

My rig, is now Digi 001... but at the time it was 3 adats and a mackie console.... No outboard pre's or converters or other fancy accesories..... (though, since then I have splurged and bought a pre)

And about the music being dated.... I agree with you totally...I have a set of strong influences, and those have carved the sound that emits from me I guess... I try and just write whats in my head and not make it angled towards whats cool etc...

Im just happy to sell 1 cd per year and continue making these albums every year or so..... Sort of like an old guy makes those fly-fishing lures or carves wood on the front porch for fun.... this is my relaxation hobby...:)

Thanks for listening....

BSABBATH...
I didn't think you were being an ass, I took it as advice...

Yeah I like a catchy sound, but with an edge to it... I have been told I sound like a cross between AC/DC and Hootie and the Bfish... so that definately a interesting mix...

You would be suprised If I told you how long that stuff took.... The first song,"I know what your thinking" I wrote and recorded during one afternoon... and then mixed that same night... (I know mixing the same day is a no-no, but hey WTF... If there is a rule, expect Voxvendor to go the opposite way of the rule :D)

Second song "Sunset Strip" I wrote on the roof of the Argyle hotel, on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood California....I still remember when I came up with that opening riff up there, I thought "Hey that sounds like AC/DC".. that song "Lets get it up...".. But it's not too close to be called a rip off, just the essence is there... :D

Third song... I had just gotten out of the hospital (4 impacted wisdom teeth) and gotten braces on my teeth (yeah the train track type) and I couldn't eat and tried not to talk too much... and there I am singing.. Once I write a song, I must record it then and there.. if not It will never "become"..

THANKS

CHEERS!

Hey Bsabath, how did you get the Music match player to work for you. I tried and the player opens up and thats it. Is there a lo-quality version because I couldnt play a hi-fi if I wanted to. 56k here. Thanks.

Definitely no hard feelings about the christianity thing, Vox.

Later,
john

hey sondriven,

when i installed Music Match, It asked if i wanted to make M.M. the default player for these file types, (MP3's) I said "yes"

Other than that, I know next to nothing about anything.

Maybe search for this option on M.M., and I always check for upgrades for M.M. and there has been one fairly recently.
Maybe thats why i was able to play them through M.M.
There are updates even for the free version.

Good Luck Bro, sorry that's not too helpful, maybe someone else can respond and hook you up..

peace.

I liked "Moon", "Thinking", and "Sunset" pretty much in that order. Professional sounding. I especially like the atmosphere of "Moon". Keep up the good work! "Time", I thought seemed like a filler and incongruous with the other three; the lyrics seemed contrived/predictable and I didn't like the exaggerated TODAY-HAY style of singing, it sounds amatuerish to me, like a tune that would be posted on a board where guys discuss things like expensive mic preamps and compressors and thingies and then you listen to their tunes and you think "pretty good recording quality", but the songs have no creativity, or vibe, or any redeeming quality whatsoever, and it makes you think that you could write and perform way better than this crap, but you don't because you don't seem to be able to get off your ass... Oh, was I actually typing that out loud? Sorry... I applaud your efforts, you have a lot of talent and potential! Stick with it.

The songs on CDBaby are RAM files (Real Audio Media) and can only be played by such players that have the ability to decode those files.

If you are associating a player, it MUST have the capability of playing back Real Media clips and be associated to the file extension .RAM and all appropriate mime types.

Unfortuneatly, the majority of people out there don't enjoy the sound quality of realplayer, or the unstability of the application...

List some real mp3's, ogg or even wma's, and I'll have a listen, and I'm sure alot more people will too! (I'm not sure if that good ol' ripoff CD baby will do it for ya though)

;)

Thanks for listening.. all opinions are appreciated.... It's so funny how different ears hear stuff... I don't really like Time either.. I mean, hey, I wrote it, it's my baby, but im not pleased with the whole vibe of the song... Recording studio buds of mine who are majorly picky and pick apart my music constantly, love that song... So it's so cool to hear the opposite...

I appreciate your frankness..... Im a little lost about the websites Talking about expensive pre-amps..... You know the part where you were thinking out loud.... But I think I get the drift...

Waldo,

Im working on the MP3's.... Im finding that no one will post the fucking things for like 1-2 weeks... and thats bullshit... Do you know of a site that has a bit of customer service?.... I mean when people listen to our tunes, they click banners and read ads... you would think some of these places would give a shit....

I don't think cd baby are rip off artists... I mean they took my money order honestly and didn't screw me around about it ;)

ARrrrrr...
Sorry, just a bit of venting.... :D

Yeah VOX, I do know of a site that has customer service, and immediate postings, but in light of recent posts I'm not sure I should mention it since I created it.

W.

A little trick... (that works for me...)

If you're using winamp, click on the play all songs hifi-broadband link on Voxvendor's cdbaby page. Turn on winamp's playlist view feature, then right click on the song title, and choose file info. Voila! you've now found the url of that MP3. Copy and paste that url into your browser's address area, and choose save to disk. You should download the MP3 that way.

Now if I could only find the zip disk I downloaded the files to.
