I'm using a Gadget Labs Wave 8/24 and I want to listen to a stereo mix by plugging my head phones into the break out box. To do this, I bought a little Hosa Y-splitter that goes from female stereo 1/4" to dual mono 1/4", plug it into outputs 1 and 2 and send the signal to this pair. The problem is that I get a lot of weird noise in signal and when I twist the cables it changes. When I unplug either one of the two mono plugs, the noise goes away. Sounds like phase interference to me, maybe caused by bad shielding on the splitter. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I'm no expert on this, so take it for what it's worth...

The output from your sound card is a line level signal, and I don't think headphones are designed to accept a line level signal.

I generally run the outputs of my soundcard back to my mixer, and plug the headphones into the mixer headphone jacks. Works fine that way.
