Noise in the headphones...Where's it comming from???

I hope someone can help me out on this one.

I have a 1975 Ampex MM 1100 16 track 2" machine and a 1988 Soundcraft 6000 24/28 board.

For Headphone amp I am using that Fostex 4 mono + Stereo 1U unit with the boxes (so everyone can mix their own mix- I like it, and other have too).

The problem I am having is static noise I am getting on Aux 1&2 (which are channels 1&2 on the headphones) on the board.

Also, the static changes sound (enough so that I can hear the change) when the ampex goes into record mode. It does not effect the recording as the static does not get recorded, so it isn't in that signal chain.

Anybody have ideas, please let me know.

Thanks,

Zach

Yo Zach of CDB:

Have you tried another pair of cans to see if the noise/hmm still is there?

Could be the cable in your cans or a bad plug.

You can try gently wiggling the plug/ and see if the noise cuts off/on. That will tell you it's the cable or the connection within the plug-in.

Not too familiar with your gear. Hope this might give you a start to finding the problem.
