Noise Canceling Headphones

This should be a very easy question to answer. I need some good headphones for use with my 244. I suspect that the ones that I have been trying to use, that I got a a yard sale years ago, were once owned by Fred Flintstone. The cheap ones that I use with my Walkman are higher fidelity than these are. As I search for headphones I keep seeing adds for "Noise Canceling" headphones. So, the question is Yea or Nay for the NC headphones? I suspect that the noise canceling technology might alter the sound of what I have recorded but I don't know. Thanks in advance for the good advice that I know I will receive from you all.

They're pretty good for tracking and when mixing, if you want to check on something in the mix without having to reach over and turn the monitors off, noise cancelling phones are your man. I have a cheap pair made by my local store, Studiospares; when I've got them on, I can't hear a damn thing. Outside, that is !

I did notice that with a pair of sennheiser noise cancelling headphones a colleague owns when the noise reduction circuit is switched in the bass content goes out of phase which could cause problems if you are trying to mix using them with the circuit switched in.
I use EX-29 extreme isolation cans for tracking - never had problems with headphone leakage into condenser mics using them.
Not 'accurate' but they're not meant for mixing.

I agree 100% with Dags. I would not use them for mixing, but they are cool when you are being creative during the tracking and editing phases. I have a pair of NC Sony’s that I use occasionally when I want to zone out and just listen to the work. I have also noticed changes to the bass when I turn the NC on. Though, it is not a phase issue, it definitely interferes with accurate mixing.
