Hi,

I have a focusrite safire pro 40 connected over 10 analoge jacks to a MixWizard 14:4:2. I mixdown the channes to a two groups, left&right and route the groups to two Outputs. If i record the output i always get a soft noise, on the monitors i dont hear it but when i listen to the recording on headphones i hear it. I think it comes from the audiointeface but im not shure. is that normal or can i do something to reduce the noise?

thanks for your help

ps: sorry for my bad english

Often mixing that way you have to be very careful of the gain staging of the signal coming from the interface into the mixer as well as the signal from your mixer into the computer.

Some interfaces have the ability to operate at different signal strengths (+4,-10).
you can try out the different choices and see which one your mixer likes better.
you should run your mixer channels at unity gain or higher, and your input gain lower.
That is not a hard and fast rule though because, listening over headphones I have often found a "sweet spot" adjusting the gain where if I got lower the noise got louder, and the same if I went higher.

also if the noise is only due to your output section of your mixer, you can record the stereo mixdown at a lower level where the noise is tolerable and then bump up the stereo track in the computer.

Lastly of course , many recording softwares have some decent noise reduction algorythms, you can try.

thanks for your answer, i will try your suggestion and hope to get a enhancement of the signal. I will give you feedback if had success.
