Noise and a bag filled with broken glass bottles

I'm just not sure what I'm doing wrong.

I mic up my bag of broken glass and miscellaneous metal objects. I do a scratch track... everything sounds tits.

But then on playback, there is an annoying sound like tubes going out on a modified Gorilla 4X12 stack. Kinda like wind chimes playing in a cavernous bunghole with a flanger...

Somebody help me!

First try to stop playing wind with a flanger in your cavernous bunghole, and stop trying to record drunk and stoned..... :D

Hey man. That's not cool.

I never implied it was MY cavernous slickery bunghole.
Only A cavernous bunghole.

C'mon Rokket...

oh yeah, I gotta take them "pee quizzes", and therefore cannot partake in the herbal treatments any longer :(

You'll need to post an mp3...

so we can diagnose your bunghole, er, your opus, I mean, well you know what I mean.

What mic, where is it placed etc.?

And I can teach you how to beat...

a piss test.

I know! I was just being silly...

Plus I thought you may have been joking....... :o

If not, post an mp3, i've never tried something like that live, I've used sampled stuff. It might be kind of cool effect....

Rokket-man, you've forgotten the first rule, never take anything I say seriously... unless I say "seriously", and only then with two grains of salt!

I am considering sampling some crap like this though, and windchimes, so I guess there was a microscopic grain of truth to this one.

Have you ever attempted to record a thunderstorm? I can't figure how to keep the mics dry. Even if I were to put them in my windowsill, on one of those rare days when it is quiet enough in my house to do so, they would still get damp...

I'd also like to record that sound when you rub the rim of a crystal glass.

I've considered filling my kitchen sink up to different levels, striking the bottom with a large metal spoon, and matching the notes with keyboard..

I've had some other odd ideas (imagine that), I'll post them as they occur to me.

Let's make this an "odd idea" thread!!! ;) :D

I actually never considered this as being 'odd' until I tried it, and the people around me kept giving me that... 'look'...

I wanted to set up my MR8 in an alleged haunted house and leave it unattended (recording) until the 512 card was filled up... Check back later to see if I was able to catch the spooks playing Canasta or something...

So far, it appears as tho they're a bit mic shy...

Does anyone have any tips (aside from leaving some beer or cannabis lying around) that might help the undead loosen up a bit once I hit record?

isn't there a maximum recording time on the Mr8? Doesn't it stop after 99 minutes or something? I think it may have been extended with one of the firmware upgrades, but I still think it is limited, above and beyond memory limitations...

FWIW, I don't think that idea is odd at all. I may try it in my house...

But I think as a general rule, the undead are a pretty uptight bunch!

Hey, a bit hard on the undead there, I mean look at Michael Jackson.

I was following that rule, until you came back with the "hey, that's not cool", and jarred me a little bit.

As far as recording a thunderstorm, there is a thread on here, I think in the recording forum about homemade tricks that covers a bunch of ideas on recording rain and keeping the mics dry...

Have fun with this! I don't see any reason why recording should be limited to just instruments!!! :D

Sorry 'bout the lack of context, I was going for a "Neil from the Young Ones" whoa dude... not cooool. Rokket, I think you're too nice of a guy to be able to say anything to offend me :D .

I seem to remember that thread, but the best suggestion was the window thing, which I tried laying a sheet of plastic in, just to see how much rain accumulated, and there was a sizable puddle there. Can't imagine how a mic would have fared, even a 57...

I wish I had more time and space to experiment, but mostly time. 5 kids keeps you hopping

5 KIDS?

No wonder your insane! :D

No, I think the insanity was already present before the 1st kid.

How else could I have allowed myself to breed 4 times more?
They're all really great kids though, believe it or not!
No signs of insanity yet, though they do exhibit a strong disposition to sarcasm and smartass-ism.

I've got four, and I thought that was bad.

"I have children because I drink. I drink because I have children."

(Overheard at the latest World Scrabble Tournament):

Gee, I wonder where they get that from?

Probably from the internet!

Couldn't be from you! :D
