If I didn't know any better, I would've sworn this was a new song by America! You remember America, right?
Sister Golden Hair, Ventura Highway, A Horse With No Name...
"No Way" has that kind of sound to it. I really liked this tune, Emeric. But hell, I like all your stuff! :)
Your songs are crisper than a case of freakin' Pringles potato chips, dude. Another great mix, too!

Lovely. The balance was right on my system, and the sound is great - you get better and better at this. What's kind of new and very tasty is the vocals - the layering and left/right stuff works a treat. I love the way the bass comes in at one point - structuring stuff that way is so effective.

Man, do you ever write anything but goodbye songs? :D

This one would do well at GB.com - it's immediately accessible. Consider it. You couldn't do worse than me. I entered at about 24,000, plummetted recently to about 25,000 and more recently have soared up to 23,000. It's fun.

Hi Emeric! Really enjoyed the song.Good lyrics, vocals, and arrangement. I hope you post it again when you make some "pitch" corrections in those harmonies...that'll be sweet! Is there a way you can get some more punch out of the toms and some more pop out of the snare? Also I really didn't hear or feel anything out of the kick drum. The drums also seemed to struggle a bit with the timimg in a couple of spots (could have been net congestion....I don't know) The guitars sound GREAT with the exception of the slide work....sounded a bit too loud in the mix and somewhat "pitch challenged" also.

Smooth as always Emeric. It does have that 60s/70s feel to it, and I'd classify it more as folk rock than country. Whatever it's called though, it's good. Really good. I like the vocals a lot, and didn't really notice the pitch challenged parts. Guitar solo fits in well, and goes great with the flow of the song. Acoustic guitar sounds really clean. How did you record the acoustic guitar parts and what acoustic did you use?

Tasty tasty...no problem with vocals to me....slide's hard to keep on pitch for almost everybody, but I agree with Mac, it was noticeable......that tamborine sound at about 1:12 and 3:07 was a clever bit of polish...really added to the feel.....this is great stuff....gibs

Buck62: Yeah I remember America, they had some great tunes for sure. Thanks for listening!

Dobro: Gloomy songs are easier to write. Maybe I will check out this GB thing, what's the address?

Mac2: The drums could use a bit more punch for sure, I didn't do much EQ/effecting to them yet so it's possible. I was wondering if the slide might be too loud there, and the pitch is off a bit damn... heheh.. maybe an autotune can fix it. There is the odd timing flub here and there for sure. Thanks for the feedback.

Jon X: The acousics, takamine, guild and a CBS tuned to nashville tuning. Takamine was direct, not much of it in the mix, guild and CBS were miced with an NT-1.

gibs: 2 counts on the slide, guess I better fix it. Tamborine adds a bit to it, was hoping it would mask some of the timing inconsistencies.

Thanks for listening.

Emeric, good tune!

As usual the mix sounds all nice and professional...in fact it makes me jealous so I'm going to try really hard to pick on it :)

The kick and bass could be a little more consistant. And yeah there's a minor pitch problem with the slide which could easily be fixed by using some vibrato. The fact that you can come so close to pitch without vibrato is impressive however.

And that's it :) Good job!

Emeric,

I listened to "No Way". To answer some of your questions, I didn't think the bass was too lound. The things that jumped out at me were: The sound on the lead vocal track was really good, the accoustic guitar sounded great, and I thought the drums sounded really good except for the kick. Something about it bothered me just a little, it sounded to 'loose' or something. As far as far vocal pitch, I wasn't listening for it early on but didn't notice anything when I wasn't listening for it. I started listening to the harmonies later, but still didn't hear anything offending.

Good song and the production sounds great to me

Emeric, please share the secret of the perfect MP3 conversion. Not only are your songs written and performed very well, they're converted most excellently.

C'mon... it'll be our little secret.

:D

Hey Slack, thanks for checking it out. I'm going to retrack the bass so maybe that will help. I'll retrack the slide and fix the pitch problem.

Ray J: Thanks for the feedback. I'll make some adjustments to the kick and bass, hopefully that will bring the kick out a bit more.

Kelly: No secret here - Audio Active Production Studio. http://www.audioactive.com I'm using and old version of it, 1.something. Just select it to 128 stereo, or 96 stereo and select 'quick encode'.

Production was crisp, as in sparkling. The melody and acoustic guitar sound was excellent. The layered vocal harmonies had a professionally spine chilling effect.

I could have used a little more bite and articulation in the vocals. The vox sound is smooth and pleasing, but could use just a little more punch here or there.

I like the counter-melody, the minor-sounding part. Everything pretty much falls in place, maybe a little more volume on the kick.

that was a tight song, and very nicely recorded.
Listening through these sony mdr headphones, I could not find anything that did not work well.

Also, the cleanness of the sound leads me to suspect that you are tracking with a Delta 1010.

nice song too.

Really nice,

It sounds like you mixed on my speakers again. Everything is at a perfect level, can't think of anything to change. Great song, and musicianship. Very relaxed sounding.

Great work Emeric!!

Finally got some time to give this a listen... everyone else has pretty much summed it up. Sounds cool and works well. You've posted what 4 new songs from the next album? From these 4 or however many there has been they are all very different from each other, which is cool. Are you purposely trying new things or is it just turning out that way??

Stunning piece of work Emeric, it is amazing to see how you can hop from genre to genre and maintain your own unique style and identity.

Vocally superb, both - melodically and lyrically. Showin' off that harmony abilty again too .
Musicianship and taste abound. Production is lush and clean, airy and wide open.

The slide bit breaks it up nice, and the structure behind really works well. I keep waitin for Leon Russell, or a reasonable facsimile thereof, to hop in and start pushin and pullin this thing with some drivin' acoustic piano. Can't have it all, though . . . no way

Smooth...

Smooth mix Emeric...I agree with most of the above take on the song. I thought the bass sounded about right to my ears for this type song, but thats just my 2cents. I love the acc guitar sound you have...Guild right? Your harmonies were right on the money..sounded real tight. Yeah the slide thing is a nice touch. How do you go about tracking your bass when recording, you always seem to have a nice tight bass on all your songs. Like the song a bunch man..keep writing.

Hey Cooperman, yeah it's just turning out that way. I guess it's all pretty much rock & roll. Some of these have been kicking around for a few years though so, it's not very organized. Thanks for the listen.

Jet-rocker: I'll work on the kick, good point with the vocals. I'll see if I can improve it in mixing.

bball jones: Thanks! positive review :) Be a good one to put on my mp3.com page that I don't have. Your right-on about the piano. I got someone in mind for that, if willing - hopefully that will be in the next revision. Appreciate the feedback.

David: Nothing too special on the bass. I'm not a bass player, so I play with a pick either through the pod with a touch of distortion or direct through the board. No EQ applied. I play bass only when recording so the strings probably stay newer longer :) It's a fender jazz bass, circa 1980's.

CyanJaguar: Your dead right, it was a delta 1010. Good to hear it's listenable on headphones.

GT: Thanks! Glad you like the song.

Excellent tune. Reminds me of the Moody Blues. Being new at this I would appreciate it if you could post the other songs you've recorded prior to this one. Thanks.
