Just wondering about my question regarding my Porta 07. I posted my question way back. I was just hoping that someone with some experience would respond and give me a clue as to what might be causing my machine to suddenly stop playing back. Would it stop if it needs cleaning? If I'm using old tape? 90 minute cassettes? Am I the only one who has ever had a machine stop playing back? A little help for this obvious rookie would be a great help. Thanks.

It's recommended that you clean the tape heads very regularly - as often as before and after each recording session. By stop playing back do you mean the machine actually stops running? If so, I've no idea why that would be. But if you mean that the machine doesn't make any sound on Playback then that could just mean it needs cleaning. Also, stick with Type II cassettes if they're the ones recommended in your manual.

Thanks, At Work for your response. When I referred to the playback "stopping" I meant that the play button actually pops up and the tape stops running as if I'd actually pushed the stop button. While it is true that my recorder did need to be cleaned (which I have done since my first post) this appears to be a mechanical problem. Have you ever heard of the "return to 0" (or whatever you call it) function going haywire. It seems that could be the cause. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to respond and I'd appreciate any other help you could provide.

I've not come across either of those problems. They do sound mechanical. Possibly the 07 needs to got to a repair shop?

Thanks, Atwork. Hopefully, when I get it running again, I'll have some more interesting topics to post about. I do appreciate you taking the time to help out a newbie.

maybe the tape is wound to tight. My porta 2 did this same thing during one session. I took the tape and rewound it back and forth a couple times in my tape player, and it never did it again.
