I really like the song! Good lyrics, catchy melodies and hooks. Well done!

pretty good song. i liked it. i think if you recorded this 10 years ago you would've knocked oasis and fastball off the charts.

as for the mix, even on headphones the vocals seem a little buried to me. then again i work around running fighter jets all day so that probably has something to do with it.
 
Unprofessional "Professional" Opinion

Took a quick listen to the song, and here's just some of the basic things that I heard that could be worked on. For one, when the lead guitar comes in, it's almost out front a little too much. Also, the drums could be a little louder, with maybe the kick pulled a little left and the snare a little right (just an idea, i'm no expert). Maybe a little extra reverb during the chorus to help separate it from the rest of the mix.

Like I said, this is just what I thought when I heard the song. Pretty good song, though. Reminds me of something Weezer might've done before they got too popular for their own good (that's a compliment, by the way...damn computers and their lack of implied tone)
 
General rule of thumb:

kick always center
snare always center

There are of course extenuating circumstances, but by and large the kick and snare dominate that space (with vocals of course)

I've come to do this more and more in my mixes (100 L and 100 R) and it's grown on me (especially for intros and choruses) - what is a good pan that you like?

80 L 80 R?
60? 50?

I do it all the time. I typically will double a guitar track and nudge one of the tracks forward 10-40 samples and then hard pan them 100% left and right. I like it. :)
 
Vocals are too quiet.

This sounds really dense in the midrange. They could stand a little compression for effect, too - if you like that kind of thing.

The drums are a little muffled sounding. I'm not an EQ guru so I won't even try to point you in the right direction.

I like the break, but the transition back could be more stark.

Good arrangement... It's well-written even if a little well-trodden.

I agree with this. A lot of mid-range mud darkening up the whole sound. The bass panned hard right doesn't work for me either. It makes the mix sound disjointed. The vocals sound pretty thin in the mix. The song isn't too far off though. Just keep playing with it. :)
