Hi i've just installed an m-audio audiophile 2496 soundcard on my PC (2Ghz Athlon, 512MB DDR, Windows XP Pro SP1) and there is a problem with the midi.. the only thing i use midi for at the moment is playing midi files and using Guitar Pro 4 which uses midi sounds. I dont have any midi keyboards or anything like that connected. I've set it up so the "Delta AP MIDI" device is the default for midi playback.. The "microsoft GS Wavetable SW synth" device works ok but sounds a bit crap. I dont know what else to try. Like i said im new to the card and the Delta control panel. Any advice would be appreciated

There is no MIDI synth hardware on the Audiophile, unlike a SoundBlaster.

If your software is up-to-date enough, it should be capable of hosting plug-in software synths and probably came with at leat one or two. What's Guitar Pro 4?

For a decent "free" solution, get the free VSTHost by Hermann Seib.
Next get the free sfz VSTi soundfont player by rgcaudio, and finally, search for
General midi soundfonts(to load into sfz). This is in essence turns your 2496 into a "software" soundblaster, and can sound much better than the MS wavetable.
