no midi coming through my speakahs

About a month ago, I had to reformat my pc and reinstall my os which is 98se. So I did that, and I also put on XP on my D:. 98 on C:, XP on D:. After I did that, I didn't mess with any sound settings (didn't install the drivers for my onboard audio) because I knew I'd be getting a recording PCI card. I figured it'd be best not to mess with anything.

After I got my delta sound card, I openned up guitar pro (a program that allows you to create songs and stuff with tabulature, using MIDI) on 98 but the MIDI did not and does not work. There's two options for midi outputs : roland mpu-401 and the 1010lt midi output. Neither will produce sound.

On XP, however, I have three choices for midi outputs, the previous ones i've mentioned and Microsoft GS wavetable SW synth, which will work. Now, I know that in past installations of 98, I've had that output. But for some reason this time, I don't.

Why won't sound come out of the 1010lt midi output and out into my speakers through the analog outs? Will it not work becaues the card has a designated MIDI output, and so it will not come out of the analog output?

Or, how to I reinstall the microsoft wavetable synth?

Read up on what MIDI is. Use Google. I'll give you a hint, it's not audio. Once you learn this, your problem should be clear. Good luck!

I will look it up. But I do know it isn't audio.

It's always worked before, but only through the Wavetable Synth.

ah, that makes more sense because i was reading that the wavetable synth is so that a sound card does not need to synthesize the data.

but, how do i reinstall the gs wavetable sw synth?

i searched microsoft and briefly searched google.

will i be able to find something somewhere?

its very simple. on board sound chips do not have good mid sound synth engines. you need to connect the output of the midi out of the delta to a good sounding multitimbral sound module.

faq's on the pg music site. and many others on the net.
