Wrong link, or are you just getting us to listen to another song from Les Miz?

Sorry, from your post I thought YOU were the piano player also singing.

Your voice can be heard but it's very hard to tell how loud you are as the camcorder is nearer the piano than you and is the only point of reference. If you mean is your voice well mixed with the piano then no, it's too quiet.
Vocal coaches often labour under the misaprehension that a mic is a magical thing that improves a voice it does not, it merely makes it louder and balances it with the other louder instruments like the piano (which BTW sounds like it's being played loud)

I'm sure it's the right link.

Elena, it's hard to judge from an amateur video with a mic on top of a camera. However, I'd guess that your vocal coach was right. Many singers do far better when they project and really sing out rather than use a microphone as a crutch. Your performance was lovely and you certainly weren't drowned out by the piano despite the lid being open with a full stick.

The need for a microphone and amplification is much more down to the style of music and the size of the room. As a sound tech, I can use thousands of watts of power and spend gazzillions of dollars to make a voice sound almost as good at it does live and unamplified!

Good luck with your singing!

Bob

In a venue which sounds like it has nice acoustics like the one you're singing in, you probably will be fine without a microphone. Like others have said, the camera is cheated towards the piano in this video (and it's a camcorder mic), so it's hard to say for sure. You have very good projection, so I wouldn't stress about it.

Do you think my voice is loud enough without it?
Sheesh kebab, girl !
To answer your question, yes your voice is certainly loud enough without the mic. You've also got a lovely voice in the raw, with good vibrato and interesting expression and damn good control over your volume.
Do your utmost to keep a sensible level head, keep working hard, try to find ways to beat feeling discouraged and don't let yourself get spoiled.
And you shall go to the ball.

Coach is right or almost right. It is hard to tell for sure if your voice is loud enough due to the proximity of the mic to the camcorder and piano.
If he ain't right he soon will be.....your voice will only get stronger.

I hope that by "go to the ball" you mean get famous. Sure, I'm young, but that's the goal.

The goal should be to enjoy yourself, expecting fame in the music business is setting yourself up for failure. Expect to make music and have fun and you'll never worry about your goals going unachieved.

The lid on the piano should have been down or at least not full open for singers. Just my opinion, though. Other than that, I'll agree with what the others have said. Your voice is projecting fine. I wouldn't sweat it.

I would need a mic to run to an in ear since I'm partially deaf and have trouble hearing myself when I sing if the accompaniment is too loud or in the same range.

Yeah. I noticed the full stick too--just shows that whoever was playing either didn't know what they were doing or were more interested in showing off than being a good accompanist.

Well, I wasn't thinking specifically of fame. More that you'll go far. You've got a powerful voice and because you're young, many may see you as ripe for being manipulated. Then tossed out on the scrapheap like a mouldy half eaten bit of pear.
Be wary of fame. It has done strange and beguiling things to thousands of previously balanced and strong minds and wills.

@grimtraveller

Thanks for the clarification on "going to the ball". Yeah, fame would be nice, but right now I am mostly focused on getting better at singing and getting better techniques.

THANKS ALL OF YOU FOR THE FEEDBACK!!!!! :)

Thanks, Julia.

I will definitely keep an eye on the piano lid next time.

I'm working on my next video where I'm playing the piano while singing a Taylor Swift song.

Thanks again.

@grimtraveller

Sorry I have not been on this forum in awhile. A muscle on my wrist was pulled while doing gymnastics, martial arts, and playing piano.

I do not write my own songs...YET.
As of now, I am singing other people's songs. Right now I am practicing to make a music video for the song "Perfect" by P!nk. We have to change it a bit because I cannot play piano in the background as it was originally planned. So instead I am just going to sing.

Thank you!

My standard advice to most teenagers is "as soon as you hit 16 {or whatever the legal age where you live is}, learn to drive and try for a part time job" and my standard advice to anyone that sings or plays an instrument is "write your own songs". All the other stuff you're doing is great and will net you dividends one day. But write your own songs. Whether it nets any dividends or not, the satisfaction it brings you will outweigh much.
At least at this point, think about it.

I am dabbling in writing songs but haven't come up with anything solid. I have written 2 books about 200 pages each but they were fantasy (elves and stuff). I have been working in the Opera House Family Center (dad's business) since I was 11. Working the front desk, assistant martial arts teacher, assistant gymnastics teacher... not comin' up with any good songs from there. LOL.

Oh, if you haven't seen the new look of my website check it out. I LOVE it!!! ElenaHouseOnline.com It matches my YouTube channel and my Fan Page.
