i had the same idea. iso booths are designed to be quiet... luxury cars are also designed to be quiet... i'm aware that "quiet" in is relative for each of these different applications, and the engineering innvolved to get there is quite differrent, but compare the inside of a car to a square room with hardwood floors, and drywall. i don't know, it makes sense to me. if you do it, post your results/impressions. i'm sure many peopel here would be curious.

Had a dream

weird, i just had a dream where i was recording a guitar amp in the car, to keep it seperate from drums and bass while live tracking...using the car as an extension...

and then I woke up and remembered and logged on here and searched...and wadda ya know, everyone's thought of this!

haha.

gate

gating is an option but not necessarily  a good one. Depends hoe loud the are. You using condensers?

I live in an aparment, and have a similar problem. I have a fairly quiet environment, etc. no problem, but I can get pretty loud (think Chris Cornell-type stuff). So here I am singing, screaming, whatever like a madman with my isolated cans on - no one (i.e. my wife, neighbors) can hear a thing but my voice. I mean, if I was my neighbor and didn't know wth was going on next door, I'd probably call the cops. So, obviously, I constantly feel restrained from letting the vocals rip whenever I want.

I had the same problem with my wife constantly entering the room while I was recording. Even after pleading with her not to do it.

I divorced her stupid ass!

you're sick :D

I hate it when im tracking my vocals...I used my closet as my vocal booth and i put a punch in foot controller there so i can control it and play it back without going back and forth...cause that gets tireing. Also its just plain embarasing my parents always tell me how bad i sing..but its only cause recording i try and polish the vocals and make them extra nice you know? so recording in your car is a good idea! i hope to have an isolation booth that is COMPLETELY sound proof!!!

on the stop people from coming in...GET A LOCK LOL!

Yeah, who cares. If you need to do them in the car, do them in the car. To hell with proper anyway. Besides, a ton of hot things have historically happened when people didn't have the means to do something correctly, they just worked/built around it.

lol well at my job if i needed to i could use my lunch break and take my stuff into an empty conference room

Just go setup outside somewhere.

I've recorded some stuff outside with pretty good results, it only really picked up birds chirping and stuff.
