it would be nice to be able to try the program out before i even consider purchasing it.

They do, but the page is broken. It will likely be fixed in the near future. Do a google search on "steinberg cubase demo". It was the first hit I got.

well i was looking for a demo of their latest, Cubase SX3....
do they have a demo for this version?????

Unfortunately, no, don't believe there is. I don't think they even released one for SX2. Kind of tough not to be able to try it out, but on a positive note, other companies with great software do have demos and demos of the latest versions.

well i demo'ed cakewalks sonar studio 4.... i'll tell you what if cubase's interface is anything like sonar studio 4, forget it!!!.... sonar was sooo cumbersome. everything seemed to be in the way.

i'm sure i won't be making any friends by saying this, but i'm definately a fan of sony's line of software. the interface is very well organized, both in Acid and Vegas, not forgeting Sound Forge.

I do hope that they put a demo out of Cubase SX3, i'd like to check it out. I'm not knocking Cubase, because, well i haven't tried it yet. that would be like saying i don't like squid even though i hadn't tried it. so i also think it would be unfair to compare Vegas 6.0 to an outdated version of Cubase.

What are you planning to record using whatever software you choose? I've seen posts by people using Vegas around here, and it does a fine job for audio. I've used Vegas previously for recording audio. I like Sony's software myself - have owned and used Acid, Vegas and Sound Forge. If that's what appeals to you and can help you with workflow, go with Vegas. Of course, there are many other options too: n-track, magix, tracktion, etc. If you're interested in other options, search around here as they've all been discussed.

Sonar's interface may be cumbersome to some, but I use it and I can get around just fine. For me, I've gotten to a point of a good workflow and have been pleased with the functionality and features. The Cubase interface is similar, but to me, it didn't seem as "cluttered". Looked a little more laid back (for lack of a better definition). I just had to move from Cubase because of various issues that I just couldn't get resolved. It is definitely not a bad program, I just found something that fit my needs better and wasn't as picky with my system.

Hope I didn't stray too far as this is the Cubase forum...

Don';t worry about what other people think - it's all about how YOU feel comfortable working. If Sony products fit your view of the world, give you a process you're comfortable with, and supply you with the features you need, then that's all you need to know.

yeah i totally understand. anyways, the only thing that matters is the product, not my preference of tools. if the product sounds great... then i'm happy.

i just want to make sure i've explored all my options in my price range.

Hey, I'll be your friend! I love Vegas, Acid, Sound Forge, CD Architect. I'm learning how to use DVD Architect now.
