No Brain?

In speaking with variations of electronic drum kits, I am always asked what I want to use for a brain- TD6, DM5, etc. etc.

If I have a kit with triggers, and I use samples for (let's say) stored in my computer, can't I go straight from the kit to a computer? Isn't there a less expensive way to simply assign the MIDI notes to trigger whatever selection of drums I want?

yep...

but you still need a trigger to midi interface. alesis just put out one:

So what you're saying is you actually DO need a brain to play drums?!?

Most others "musicians" would disagree.
