This is weird....I have line out from my sound card to the my powered speakers, I get midi tracks loud and clear, but audio tracks are very faint and muddy. The weird part when I was checking my connections I plugged the powered speakers into line IN and the audio came thru like gangbusters!!! My CD Rom works fine from line out....so does the output from my mixer..but not Powertracks audio....what am I doin wrong??? Mike

Output from the line input jack? Are you sure that you don't have two line outs? Some SB cards have a four channel deal (two line out jacks) where you adjust the front to back balance through some special software app separate from the mixer app.

This line out is marked "line in" but worked like a line out with Powertracks audio tracks only. I am really baffled...this computer came from Circuit City, it's a Monorail brand, I have made no changes other than adding a CD writer.

I double checked again to make sure which is "line out" and "line in" , they are clearly marked on the back of my computer. Im not sure if it is a SB, but it is the one that came packaged with my 350 mhz Monorail system from Best Buy. I tested audio from the stereo "line out" from my Sony MDM-X4 minidisc recorder to "line in" on the card as well as playing CD's from the computer. It works fine as does all other audio. But the Powertracks audio material is inaudible until I plug the powered speakers into "line in" on the card. Midi tracks play fine...but no audio on audio tracks. Switch to "line in" from the card and presto....audio and midi both sound great! But then i cant record anything from "line out" into the card.....tried that... Damndest thing I ever saw.....Help!!!!

Well, I guess no one wants to take this on, not even Powertracks..i called them today....they say it's my bastard sound card...whatever it may be..I guess I will have to physically look at the card, maybe I can tell...,was told to call the Monorail people, but they are closed for the day.. Im beginning to wonder if digital multitracking is worth it, I think I might just work with my Sony 4track minidisc... . Otherwise Powertracks recommends a new soundboard...add it to an already new computer, which should work fine!! Im disgusted for obvious reasons... :(

Any suggestions Dragon? anyone?? anyone listening? or had similar problem?? please speak up..thanks...

Have you tried checking your volume settings for the sound card? Make sure the volume for WAV isn't turned down.

Also for Powertracks your card MUST be full duplex or it won't run properly.

The only other thing that comes to mind is if you're trying to use two separate cards, that only works in version 6.0

I hope you get it running, I have it and it's by far the best multitrack software I've ever worked with.

Good Luck,
Joe

It sounds like a bad soundcard to me. Might be a cheap sb compatible card. You should have documentation on the card. If you bought this computer new within the year you should have them replace it and thats for free. better off taking it out yourself unless best
buy will do it for you for FREE.
My personanl opinion would be to get a better card. {after checking out the existing card} If its really cheap replace it with a better one. Try ebay or haggle. They always have some new and used cards. Just make sure you
get the right card. Someone posted that it had to be full duplex so buy a full duplex card. Soundblaster seems to be the standard
low end and mid card. Ensonique also.
Just dont forget powertracs. You may have a cheap card that just wont work with it. But I still think its your card. I have never seen
speakers play through a line in. Maybe they
changed the laws of physics since I have been
to school.
Dont get frustrated. All this stuff is in its
infancy and will get better as time goes on.

Thanks for the encouragement Duck, and you too Joe! I found a good Soundblaster 16 in one of my other computers and disabled the one that came with my computer......everything works now! Except, when I try to overdub wav track two with say, track one , the playback from the first track is as slow as the chipmunks were fast! Strangely, if I add wav tracks to one of the existing tutor.seq, or the demosong that comes with powertracks, I can overdub as many wavs as i want with no problem....
Its just happening when I start a new song from scratch. any thoughts guys? Thanks again Mike
