I'd like to thank the Academy...
Actually I would like to thank Mike for letting me in on this being new around here.
I said in a note to Mike when we were corresponding back and forth that I had actually played the guitar to this as well once (not nearly as well as he did) and as I remember the song was a lot harder to play than it sounds. I just wanted to give him kudos on wonderful playing and production.

i missed the song when it was posted and i missed jagular's posts so didn't know what i was in for.
NICE VOICE jag! Man you sound like a pro to me. Very smooth recording as well. Please share the vocal chain. Apologies if you done this already in a previous post that I missed.
Only a couple of crits. 1. the solo guitar sounds out of tune on a couple notes. It also sounds like it's in an entirely different room from everyone else. 2. Watch the revervb on the drums in the fadout. That bass drum is getting swallowed by the effect. Sounds like it could use a little predelay.

Beautiful recording. Nice pretty song. Harmonies were smooth. I liked the parts. I noticed a little looseness in a couple of spots. Very small though.

First, thanks to all for listening and for your comments. Second, thanks to Chris for pushing us into this (he didn't have to push too hard ). Third, kudo's to John for a great performance.
Not too many negatives, but I'll try and address them:
erichenryus - I don't think the solo gits are out of tune, but what you're hearing might be the result of my playing around with eq. Also, I have an additional reverb slapped on the solo's, which is probably why you think they sound like they're in another room. I was looking for something here that I'm not finding. Most likely I will remix and ax the eq and extra verb.
The fadeout verb is on the entire mix. Not sure how I could isolate the bass drum from that. Doesn't really bother me personally though.
3M - I agree there is some looseness in some of the harmony parts. Most prevelant during the fade-out. That is probably the result of the backwards approach we took. Normally you would record the lead and then add the harmonies afterwards. In this case, John, sang to a complete track, and some of his "expression" didn't quite match the existing BV's. However, after a couple of listens, the looseness actually tends to grow on you (at least it did on me). Although it may be a bit less polished, it does lend a bit of "realness" to the mix.
jagular/erichenryus - no additional processing on the dry vocal, except to roll-off the low freq's (<100 Hz) as John mentioned, and to add a bit of the same reverb that was on the rest of the mix to help unify it, since it was recorded in different rooms. My hardest job was to make sure I didn't let anything get in the way.
BTW, I was guessing that you used an outboard compressor on this. The track was nice and fat. I might have to invest in one for use on vocals.

…well at least to get some of that nasty digital clipping. I usually only set it at 2 or 3 to 1. I’m sure I know I could control my voice not to clip without the compressor, but then some of the excitement would be lost dachay2tnr said:

g-man, thanks for checking in. It always a good thing to get your seal of approval. It was an easy collab. You just send some crummy tracks to jagular, and have him add some great vocals. After that, nobody notices the crummy tracks.
