Any comments on this amp? It looks like a pretty good deal (no I don't work for MF) and exactly what I need for around the house. I don't need the volume. I just want a nice clean tube sound for practice.

Ephiphone Amp

I haven't heard the amp, but the description is a bit puzzling. A pair of 6L6 power tubes put out about 50 watts. The amp description says 6L6 tubes putting out 10 watts?

Cheap tubes = crappy sound and crackle

If you insist on having a small amp that has "real tubes" in it, spend the extra $$$ and get a Peavey Classic 30. If you want an amp that has all the sound of a tube amp without the high tube-amp price and the inevitable tube maintanance, get yourself a Roland BC30 and revel in the magic that is analog-circuit blues. It will astound your ears. Put the BC30 next to any good tube amp and close your eyes and I think you'll be hard pressed to tell the difference between them.

BTW, it costs the same amount of money as that crappy Epiphone and it's a Roland, so it's rock-solid dependable. I haven't seen a bad review on this amp yet... anywhere!

Check it out...

Another great amp for pure tube sound is the Vox Valvetronix series. The Vox AD30vt actually has a tube in it, too. Great tone for just $40 more than the Epiphone amp....

I did read some of the comments and they did suggest replacing the tubes. I have plenty of new tubes sitting around so that's no biggee for me. But I will wait until I'm able to hear one.

I didn't see it says a pair, I see its says "12ax7 and 6L6 tubes". To me that means one of each.
