i think some clarity could be added to the guitar tracks and maybe bring the drums up somewhat. they're sitting a little far back and it kinda sounds weak in that respect. snare is kinda muffled. i think some of the earlier mixes had better drum sounds, but maybe they were a tad loud. just my lowly opinion. :)

Thanks for checking it out-the right mix on the drum track has been the toughest part for me to get right. On the last mix I know the volume was a bit much, time for more adjustments.

Tony, are you compressing the drums at all? They seem like they could stand more compression to make them more even. Then maybe you can get a better hold of the volume. They are pretty quiet in this mix.

Shoot, I keep seem to be going from one extreme to another-way too much to way too little. Do you have a favorite compression ratio that you use with EZDrummer, Ed? I need to get the compression level that works with the program.
I typically use soft knee compression on all the guitar tracks and vocals but none on the drum tracks so far. Send me advice on what you do with you're drum tracks when you have a minute, please...

I think the only thing you need to do is bring the drums up a bit, not much. I use ezdrummer also and do not usually put compression on anything. But then again, I find myself setting the drums too loud in the mix.

Cool song, man. I like the guit solo.

Cheers,

Thanks for listening and the comments-the song is kind of an experiment of new gear and lyrics are crazy twists that life sends my way lately.
I will experiment with the mix and try a new remix sometime soon.:)

With Ez-Drummer, you shouldn't need much compression...and it would vary with how you want the drums to sound. Are you using Sonar to do this in? If so, use the Sonitus compressor, and try the preset for complete mix. It seems to just compress the top end of things, and might allow you to raise the volume a bit. Maybe change the knee to a hard knee, and see if you could raise the drums a couple of db then.

Pretty cool - the whole mix seems pretty well gelled... That organ/guitar mix continues to impress... No nits from me just an enjoyable ride...

Hey Dogman, I use Sonar LE for the EZDrummer plug-in to arrange the drum sounds and for some basic tracks but I them export to Adobe Audition for mixing and effects. Is the Sonitus compressor in the Sonor menu or in the Cakewalk VST menu? I bet it was not in the LE version but there are lots of other options I need to check into.
I might try to normalize them in Audition by a small amount to level them and add a bit of gain.

Thanks Ido, I think I just got lucky with the combination on those tracks. The guitars are a Telecaster and Firebird copies-both quite cheap ones-and a Roland XP-60 church organ sound. The guitars are playing root and 5th power chords where the organ is doing the root and the 3rd-so they are filling out the chord when they are combined...;)
