whats another alternative to a sm57 (possibly cheaper) and also the same for a sm58

well if money is all your talking about i have to say that their is know best alternative for an sm57. THey are dirt cheap.you can find one on ebay for like 60 dollars. Seriously save for an extra day and get the sm57/58 just my opinion though.

Yeah, I would go for the original. I've heard of folks recommending the GLS ES-57 clones that you can get on e-bay, though.

oh

wow thats cool has anybody ever used GLS ES-57s and if so do they really sound exactly like sm57s

And can you drive nails with it?

I get good use out of my GLS 57s on guitar amps, toms, and sometimes snare.

axis

axis, have you ever used them on a recording

ps are you from richmond?

I've been using them on a cd im working on at the moment.

No im not from Richmond, Im close by though. I live in Charlottesville.

I have bought 57's for $40!!!! Why would you need (or want) a cheaper mic???? 1 tank of gas costs $40 and it's gone in 3 days!!!! a 57 will last for 50 years!!! Plus if you decide to sell it, you will get your $40 bucks back. :)

I agree...there's no competition for a real 57 or 58...you can get them sooo cheap because EVERYONE uses them. There just aren't comparable mics for less...however, there are better for more of course...

I beg to differ. Sennheiser e385 is where it's at. The SM58 has nothing on it IMO.

Sorry duder...not meaning to offend...but that hasn't been my experience...it's been very few people I've ever worked with that liked the sound of and e385 more than a 58 - and though I'm not sure, I don't think they're cheaper...

SM58 used

On eBay I have bought a Sennheiser MD431 (!!!) for 111 Euro (paid only 101 Euro because sometimes eBay makes a bonus for present)... It's beautiful!
Of course, you must have a little of experience to identify thiefs.
For SM58 could be a little difficult to find them, because people who had to replace them with beta58 has already done it and who still have a SM58 doesn't want to replace it.

Just get the real deal. There are a million of each on eBay, and new, Shure is offering a $10 rebate on either right now. I've got a couple 57's and a few 58's that I've purchased over the past years. Just save up a couple bucks, and get the real deal.

My 2 cents.

Dude, I just got a 57........is the rebate stuff anywhere online? I went to Shure's website and couldn't find any mention of it.
