I've found the comments and information on the Home Recording BBS quite useful. I'm a total newbie and have been trying to get some song ideas down lately using some new gear that I've picked up. Although I used to sing for my supper way back in the 70's, my pipes have gotten a little rusty and I'm still trying to get the voice back in shape. I write and play these songs to chill out from my rather intensive day job. With much trepidation I've decided that I may as well let some other people listen to them. At least, I can make a few people feel better knowing that there are some real rookies out there!

Have a listen to Madness in the Air at

Not a bad tune but the high-hat and drums are on the verge of clipping.Compression/Limiting?The kick is distorting big time.....at this point the drums are so hot it's distracting....nice vocal work.I can tell you are more than a karoke singer.;)

Tame those drums!

Thanks for listening, Kramer. I knew that I had a problem with the drums......still trying to come to grips with digital distortion (my old Teac 4 track was more forgiving in some respects). I'll back off of them in a remix.

First off......San Antonio is a absolutely wonderful city. My wife and I went there for our anniversery last year and loved it.

I have an old Teac 3340 that I still use and yes, you just can't go in the red AT ALL with digital. But noise isn't as much of a problem so you have to overcome that analog instinct to push it as high as possible.

The song.........good vocals for one thing nice counterpoint harmonies too. That said......there is a over riding distorted quality to the sound that is a little harsh. It's not actually audible but it gives it that abrasive sort of sound. I think if you just back it off that'll do it.

Nice piece of music though....glad to have you on the board.

Just checked out one of your other tunes,"It Augers Well" ,That is a cool tune!
Shoot for that kind of mix on "Madness in the Air " and you'll be on the right track.

Many thanks for listening, Bob. I loved those Teac 4 track machines....it was a real revelation back in the 70's. Looks like I definitely need to watch the digital meters and get a better set of ears (mine must be blown out from the high decibels of my early years).

Glad you liked San Antonio....it's a great place to live too.

Thanks, Kramer. I was a bit unsure about It Augers Well. I wrote it as a homage to Brian Auger so it uses a lot of references (some subtle) to his songs in the lyrics. WIsh I could play keyboards like him.

Don't bother listening to the other songs on my site...they definitely suck!

So much to learn here but loving every minute of it.

The site seems to be back up now. Internet ephemera, no doubt.
