k i just got cubase sx3...im switching from cool edit pro 2.1..and i have no idea what im doing..the interface is totally different..i cant even set up my devices right.....can somebody point me to some tutorials or some place where i can get started...im totally lost right now

on second thought..lemme ask some specific questions..this might be easyer...im sorry if these seem incredably easy..but it woul dtake me hours to figure this out by myself, and you guys know all this so here we go

1) i needa set up my mic (shure sm7b > dmp3 >delta 44) right now i dont make beats, and im only doing vocals..so thats my main thing i need...i got it to sorta work in default mode..but if i go to audio sequencer..the input is diffrent (mono 1 as opposed to IN 1) and it says it doesnt recognize anything on that port..should i just use default for recording the vocals then?.... i just got my bcf2000 working by guessing..its not workign so well wit the mic..

2)this might seem silly but...is there any way to make it so where ever i click thats where it starts playing from..like in cool edit..thats default..but here..i can select tracks, cut them, etc. with ease..but i cant just move the starter line to where i want without rewinding/forwarding

3)when i can record vocals in default...only the left side records...(i am running mic in input 3 on the delta)..i had the same problem with cool edit..but resolved it by putting it to record to "left only".... i cant figure out how to do that here...also..in cool edit..when i recorded in left only, it would record one wave, as opposed to a left and a right..this made it more difficult to minipulate..is there any way to have it record to both a left and a right?

4) been messing around with plug ins and stuff..and for some reason, i cant preview anything..i press preview..and the bar in the plug in shows that its working..but no sound is...wat am i doing wrong?

5) wats up with the lag? i push play and like a second later it starts playing..is that just my computer not having enough processing power? i have a 2.3 gh p4, with 1024 gig ram, and a gforce 4 FX...i dont think processing should be an issue should it?
so far those are the main problems im working on..thanks alot guys

thanks guys

ps. i ahve the operational manual and the getting started manual but they arnt very practicle to me..i mean im sure they have everythign i need..but theres a lot of stuff in there that is way over my head..and its kinda hard to filter it all..i dont do any work with midi stuff..and alot of it has to do with that

THANKS FOR LISTENING!

1. Not sure. Check out the audio set-up page and make sure Cubase is seeing the inputs of your soundcard.

2. Click on the timeline at the top of the screen (you can see the bar numbers). Be careful where you click, otherwise you'll change the left/right markers.

3. If you're recording one mic, you need to record it mono. It is a pointless waste of disk space recording it in dual-mono. Stick with it.

4. Just play your audio through the plug-in, it should work. If not, check ins.outs. I'm not sure about any 'preview' button.

5. Go to audio set-up page and choose an ASIO driver, as opposed to the Windows MME one. ASIO will be much faster and should eliminate any perceivable delay.

Hope that helps,

A47.

In all seriousness, you ayn't gunna ged 2 far widout reedin da manual. Save urself sum time an reed "Getting Started" 3 times.

thanks for the help guys....

how do i get to the audio set up page?

Click devices/device setup/vst audiobay.

You still need to read the startup guide!

thanks! but asio driver is laredy whats selected..i dont think its a latancy issue...its just like i clicmk the play button...but a second later it will start playing..theres a very noticable delay..:-/

If you don't set your pointers, I think the default setting is 5 which means that the pointer won't reach the track for 5 seconds. Try moving a track left to zero and see if that fixes your problem.

When you go to Devices, Device Setup, VST Audiobay, what is your total input and output latency?
