What's up everyone? I'm trying to figure out what kind of set up i'll need to start doing some home recording. Obviously i'll need to upgrade my system, i'm just not sure what to buy. I'm picturing a sweet flat panel moniter, a nice mixer, a quality sound card, a power house computer and some kind of edditing software. I have ideas of recording a live band on my computer. Is this the way to go or would buying like a console be the way to record a live band?

if you are starting with nothin and wanting to record a live band, I recommend building your setup around a standalone HD recorder and not a PC...maybe use the pc for editing/mixing.....

Get a "real" monitor instead of a flat one, which are too expensive for the size you get. You want a really large monitor if you're editing on your computer. Seen the prices on 19" flat monitors? Ouch:)

There are a number of directions you could be guided in. First, though, it might be helpful if you listed the specifics of the computer system you already have and what your budget is.

Well, you describe yourself as a "newbie" but what kind of budget are you on? The stufff you are talking about will cost you serious money.
