All I want to do is record 8 tracks at once onto a CD the cheapest way possible. Nothing fancy.

Can this be done with an analog 8 track recorder going to my computers soundcard with Cubase or Cakewalk recording?

Do I need something like a TASCAM 788 to record to its hard disk, mix and master then send it to the computer as a wav file to burn to a CD?

Any hints/tricks from you pros would be very helpful.

How are you going to play back 8 tracks from a CD????

As long as the recorder will simultaneously record 8 tracks.
Record the performance on your 8 track. Hook it up to your sound card. Mix it into cakewalk,..or whatever,... and burn your CD.

I'm assuming you already have the 8 track,..the computer and cd burner.

There ya go,..nuttin' fancy 'bout that.
