Hello, I had just got CEP, and know very little about the recording aspect. I know how to add all the effect and stuff, but recording is difficult. I have a six channel mixer, which i mic my drums with. One thing i do not understand is how do we record drums and guitar at the same time, but on different tracks. So i need some kind of special soundcard? i have soundblaster pro 16.we just got a new computer. also, how do i record my drums so they are loud when playing back, but so they do not clip. It seems i have to record on a low volume on the MIXER to prevent clipping. Should I refer to CEP's volume control more? if so, what do i do for each track..for everything? what does running hot mean? ahh lol, sorry i don't know jack. If someone could give me some tips and help me so i can started with CEP, i would love it! thanks!!

eventually, you'll want a new soundcard. That one sucks.
But, you SHOULD be able to get two seperate tracks... is your mixer Stereo?? If so, pan all the drums to one side, and all the guitar to the other. That should do it. Then record MONO in CEP

Hmmm. you should be able to get a hot signal from your mixer...Try and find an 'input level' control somewhere.. like if your soundcard has a volume control.

if so, what do i do for each track..for everything?

Im afraid I dont know what you mean..:)
what does running hot mean?
Loud, but not clipping. The more signal you have, the better.

Welcome to the board, By the way!!

awesome

Thanks! is there any books on CEP i can buy?

I am unaware of any books on CEP, but contrary to popular opinion, the cool folks at Syntrillium will send you a manual if you ask them to. What for? I found so much cool stuff that CEP will do that I never even suspected until I read the manual (okay, not fun reading but.....). There are also lots of websites about digital recording etc. Plus, the people here are really helpful. Enjoy

ok cool, thanks. do i just e-mail them? cause i deffinitly need a manual because there is so much stuff. How good of a sound can you get out of CEP? we have good mics and equipment, can we get a professional sound? i have a feeling we can, haha, we just don't know how to use all of the features.

I got the manual by sending in a card when I bought the product. An e-mail would probably work, but have the serial number ready.

I hope you got your manual. I have one and it is somehow much easier to sit and read a book than to decipher the same information on a screen! I second the previous posts both about getting a better soundcard and about the helpfulness of Syntrillium's tech support. I had a problem with the audio disappearing (I'm new at this, too) and I got a knowledgeable response back the next day from Syntrillium. (What they suggested worked, too.)Be prepared to spend some time with the program, but once you become familiar with its quirks it's no harder than running a Porta-Studio. There are so many options with Cool Edit Pro for a new-to-digital person like me that I'll probably never use all of it -- but if I need it it's there. So far I have recorded from old scratchy LPs, cleaned them up, and burnt onto CD; recorded multi-track live and edited and tinkered and burnt onto CD; and I will spend today recording from cassette which will be cleaned up etc and burnt onto CD. Of course I'm wearing my Cool Edit Pro tshirt just in case....

you can get a pro sound on it. I've recorded 3 CDs on it that sound better than most of the shite I listen to in my car...
