I'm trying to use the trial version of Samplitude Studio 6.0. I can't get Samplitude to play back any audio files. I can record tracks on to using a microphone or line into my sound card, but I cannot play them back. Likewise, I can load .wav files, but I cannot play them. I get this sort of message every time I try to play anything through my soundcard onto my PC's speakers:

'Cannot open waveform device 'SoundBlaster Live'. Format not supported or can't be translated. Use Capabilities function to determine formats.'

I can't find the capabilities function mentioned in the error message. I have checked the OPT menu; my soundcard is selected as the recording device there. I've also tried loading files of different sample rates and word sizes; no help. Any suggestions?

Which operating system are you using? If you're using XP, you've gotta have the WMA box checked, I think.

I am indeed using Windows XP. I can't find the "WMA box" to which you refer. Is it in Samplitude or in Windows itself?

I'm sorry, it was WMD. Not WMA. My bad.

It's in Samplitude Under:

System/Global Audio Options

In the box that says:

Device Resolution/Driver Communication

There should be an option for:

WDM compatible
24/32 bit support

That box should be checked.

If there isn't that option, you'll need to download an upgrade patch from somewhere.

Well, you are right; I had to download the patch in order to get the option you mentioned. Once I checked the box, I did get sound playback once, but then I got the Windows Blue Screen of Death. I tried loading the program began, and this time as soon as I checked the box, I got a Blue Screen of Death. It may be that Samplitude just does not like Windows XP. Cool Edit is working fine for me, so I may just stick with that.

Hmmmmmm..... I'm using XP & Samplitude is solid for me.
May wanna try the old reinstall & reboot dance. :)

the demo version of Samplitude does not support 24bit WDM playback or recording under Windows XP/2000. if you install the patch it may work, but will reduce the demo from 90 days to like 30...

just run the demo in 16bit device resolution mode and 32bit internal mode... 16bit will be more than fine for testing the product.

Thanks for your replies. Jdechant, I'll try your suggestion. Thanks again.
